Up to now we were only intent on getting from Somerset West to Knysna in the shortest possible time. Swellendam was just signpost along the way. Now that we are in our late 70's we decided to break the journey - and what a pleasure break it became. The town is beautiful and full of interest. De Oude Pastorie was a haven of comfort of the highest order. Our hosts, Des and Wilma, were friendly, efficient and went out of their way to make us welcome, comfortable, well fed, and fully rested for the next leg of our journey. We will make it a must for our stops on the road to Knysna in future and cannot recommend it too highly.

We changed several times our reservation and got instant answers and "ok" from the owner. They helped us in finding and recommending the best restaurant in town. Breakfast was wonderful.Delightful big pool.

Had a very enjoyable 3 days here in the cottage in the garden. So nice to be able to wander out straight into the garden to sit and read or just enjoy the view.
The owners, Wilma and Desmond really put themselves out to make sure we enjoyed our stay and it was lovely being in a B &B where the owners really cared for us and our comfort.
The breakfasts were delicious and the eggs came from their own chickens .
Felt very sad when it was time to leave.

We stayed here just for one night on our way back to Cape Town from Oudtshorn. We had the Pharoe room in the eaves of the lovely old house and our friends had a similar room opposite. The rooms were spacious with lots of luggage room ,a big comfy bed and a super bathroom (with an antique bath I just had to try out). The decor was old style with lots of wood panneling and antiques,we had the upstairs sitting room to ourselves complete with balconies with a view of the mountains. The garden has a good pool and loungers ?
Our hosts we very friendly helpful and informative. There were nice touches like the sherry and chocolates at turndown and the home cooked breakfast was excellent .We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this guesthouse and would love to go back there .

Having stayed in Swellendam last year in a wonderful place in the other end of town my wife was disappointed that we weren't there again. Disappointment was soon over come by meeting the relatively new owners Wilma and Des. This lovely Cape Dutch style house has magnificent rooms, aircon, crisp white cotton sheets and we had a delightful veranda to enjoy a sundowner or two.

On our last night I had had too much Africa (sun, food & alcohol!) so retired to bed with a migraine. Wilma and Des were very kind and my wife was invited to share their BBQ (braii) - awesome so I'm told!

If you are travelling from the Cape and intend stopping in Swellendam you can't go wrong at De Oude Pastorie. It's not pretentious, it's not 5* but it is wonderfully homely, friendly, very comfortable and the best hosts in town.
