With friends we enjoyed a majestic 5 nights as the guests of Georgeanne, Ketut and staff at their beautiful setting.
It had it all- great accommodation, setting (gardens and pool), food and service- in a traditional and attentive but non intrusive style.
When the desire presented, the realities of street life (excellent food and great massages) were just minutes away, as was the Beach.
To add to the experience we suggest you request a home cooked meal- it was such quality and value we mostly ate in for the evening.
If you are seeking a relaxed, authentic experience with real and genuine people, from our perspective this is for you ; otherwise......l
We love Villa Sanggah! It is a perfect spot to use as "home base". We've taken a taxi to various spots all over the island, and look forward to returning here each evening. The beach is an easy few blocks away. The shopping and food in the area are good. The real advantage is Villa Sanggah is tucked away from street noise, yet close enough to walk out to dinner. You couldn't ask for a more helpful person than Georgeanne. She's made our stay a delight! A great kitchen to cook your own as well. Breakfast prepared included.Enchanting garden setting.
We were fortunate enough to spend a week at Villa Sanggah in March of 2017. It is close to the beach and the hustle and bustle of the street, but we found ourselves immediately transported once behind the gates by its quiet paths and colorful gardens with new and more beautiful treasures to be discovered at every turn. A wonderful sanctuary in which to begin and end each day. We look forward to our next visit! Thank you Georgeanne!
Although it has all already been said in other reviews about how out of this world Villa Sanggah is, here it is again. There is nowhere like it that we have ever been: an oasis of tropical gardens, quiet calm, privacy, comfort and most of all a beautiful place to relax and refresh. We booked Villa Sanggah for a week on the strength of other reviews, figuring so many people could not be wrong. All our hopes were exceeeded. Sanggah is a large, botanical- like gardens with three separate bungalows spread throughout the property and a large central pool. It is in Batu Belig just out of Seminyak. What a haven has been created here, not like any teeming hotel. The bungalows have everything you need including WiFi, TV though you won't want to watch, incredible outdoor bathrooms, air conditioning etc. Best of all there are verandahs to sit outside and look at the gardens, which defy description. Some wonderful eateries are a five minute walk away, try Watercress or an informal Warung down on the beach. Cannot recommend Villa Sanggah enough.
What a truly spiritual place Villa Sanggah is. From the moment we walked through the gates (close to midnight mind you!) we felt instantly relaxed and thankful that we were settling in to a weeks stay and this lush, quiet piece of paradise.
The villa was close to alot of the tourist attractions in the hustle and bustle when we wanted to step out into mainstream - Kuta, Legian, Seminyak were all just a 15 - 20 minute drive (depending on traffic) and Canggu just 5 minutes away with the Canggu Club for the kids. But to return 'home' inside the gates of Villa Sanggah - the madness just stopped and you were instantly calmed by the peaceful gardens.
The pool was a favourite for the family and the kids got to meet some others their age that were staying in the other villa and they had such a ball. The staff were friendly and courteous and Georgeanne was ready to assist us with our plans and provide local advice for whatever needs we had. We also had friends from home who were staying in Kuta come to the villa to a traditional Balinese feast and commented on how it was such a peaceful sanctuary.
Thanks Georgeanne and staff for a wonderful stay and for the inspiration that I needed for the planning of my balinese gardens (starting asap!).
This lovely villa has three separate bungalows, each surrounded by beautiful Balinese gardens.
You can relax by the pool all day, or go five minutes walk down to the beach. There are a load of restaurants walking distance, both at the beach and on Batu Belig. They provide nice breakfast...we had eggs, French toast, omlettes and cut fresh fruit and local coffee every morning.
There is also golf and mountain bikes if you want to arrange it. We watched NFL.com on the wifi and it worked just fine. :)
A really laid back and relaxed break in a very comfy, casual villa.
There's not much that hasn't been said here about what a magical place Villa Sanggah is and how delightful its owner, Georganne is but I'll try...
I've travelled to Bali, many times and said I had had my fill but, when family (who hadn't been) wanted to go I went looking for something different. I had stayed in other villas and large 5 star hotels and, although they were wonderful, wanted to find something that fed my soul, somewhere that got us back in touch with ourselves. In Villa Sanggah We found it.
It was the gardens that first attracted me and I wasn't disappointed. They are absolutely beautiful and filled with lush, tropical foliage and flowers, a statue or carving around every corner, temples and fish ponds. Georgeanne and her staff are in the gardens daily, tending to everything and filling them with her love.
The villas themselves are just as lovely , all timber and thatch with art everywhere and Balinese fabrics on every curtain, bed and cushion. Slick and shiny, modern concrete Bali villas these are not and all the better for that. These were homes that welcomed and nurtured.
We travelled with three children under ten who loved the place. They would have stayed in that pool all day, every day if we let them. When not in the pool they could be found adventuring through the garden exploring magical places, finding birds and butterflies, fish and frogs.
Georgeanne's staff are as delightful as she is and are a testament to her and her philosophy, friendly, charming and always smiling. Every one of them helped to make our holiday an absolute pleasure.
This is the Bali that you dream of. A magical place that takes you away from all your worries and cares. To the first foreign travellers who discovered the place and to the Balinese themselves it was and is the island of the gods. Not big gods who demand big temples and bang around but gods that live in the everyday; in the plants and in our lives, in kind deeds and gentle people. Villa Sanggah is that paradise.
Someone else on here said that Georgeanne would be disappointed when she got to heaven and they're probably right! But she's built her own little slice of heaven right here in the lap of the gods. Better still she's willing to share it with you.
