A typical Asian-style city-center hotel

Review of Korat Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Feb 14, 2024
I stayed here for one night on a two-week self-driving road trip that included Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Nan, and Nong Khai, following the Mekong and the borders with Laos and Cambodia.

This is a typical It’s a typical Asian city-center-style budget hotel the likes of which can be found throughout Thailand and the region in general.

I chose this accommodation because it had ample parking and good reviews.

The room and bathroom were large, comfortable, and reasonably clean. The refrigerator, air conditioning, hot water, and wi-fi worked well. The bedding, towels, etc. were good.

At a walk-in rate of 1000 THB, I thought it was average but perfectly suitable for a night’s stay. A local-style breakfast was also included.

Has been renovated since my last visit, well done
Standard rooms are small but quite sufficient
Great staff throughout the hotel
Walking distance to many attractions, tuk tuk prices are quite reasonable around Korat

Don't be fazed by its external facade. This hotel has some of the most updated modern rooms with flat screen tv with satellite tv channels, rain showers heads and a seriously comfy bed. Situated in the old quarters of Korat, the hotel has a wide array of facilities including a restaurant, Klang Plaza 1 which is a medium sized mall, plenty of spa and massage outlets around. There is a swimming pool too and a gread spread of buffet breakfast with Thai and European dishes available. The hotel is mostly quiet because of its design hence one will find staying here a comfort. Its of walking distance to the famous Lady Yamo statue monument revered by people of Korat as the heroin who defended Korat from the Burmese. Plenty of places to go around and to do people watching from just nearby the hotel. All in a good priced well balanced hotel for solo travellers and families

There is a HUGE discrepancy between the virtual (shown under Google Maps) and the real. First of all, none of the photos are correct, except for the 360 street view. Even more confusing, the locals refer to the place as the KR Hotel; only on the Internet is it called the Korat Hotel.

Room rate is 1000 at the front desk — not 500, as shown in Google Maps.

If you click on the two links (Expedia and Wotif), they merely provide all the hotels in Korat — one cannot get a room in Korat for 500 baht!

Neighborhood is less than charming — every other shop on this street either sells fabric, sports jerseys or school uniforms. No place to eat. (To find a decent meal, you need walk 15 minutes, across the moat, to the new Klang Plaza; on the fourth and fifth floors you will find restaurants and a food court.)

To be fair, room is bright, with a nice big balcony. Perhaps interestingly, a reviewer who described the place as having “a nice spa and massage” neglected to mention that the spa is called the Best Babylon.

A hotell with a big parking in the back. Friendly staff. The rooms are with fridge and aircon. And the hotel is close to the night life (walking distance). The breakfast are ok but not if you are wery hungry like me its not big enough. Will I come back? I think so

Stayed here for three nights, when compared to UK prices it was very good value for money.

Reception area very good but they struggled to speak English which I found a little surprising considering they had clocks on the wall for times in London and New York etc, therefor creating an international feel.

Anyways, fortunately the Bell Boy spoke good English and found all staff to be friendly. Fortunately I had the advantage of my partner being able to speak Thai, could have been an issue without that.

The room (twin) wasn’t too bad, a bit dated and grubby in places but again, when considering how much it cost then it was acceptable.

Breakfast was awful, had eggs and bacon and it was stone cold. My partner had Thai food and this was also pretty poor.

On night one we decided to have room service food, again it was horrible so would recommend eating out for all meals.

The hotel is positioned pretty much centrally, a short drive from Nakhon Ratchasima zoo, Water Park, Various markets, temples and shopping malls.

Tok Tok across the road available pretty much 24 hrs I think. Had one take us on a tour for 400 baht. Not something he readily offered, in fact he seemed bemused that someone wanted to pay to drive around the city to have a look around. Eventually we agreed a price and let him decide where we went. All in all it was money well spent. However, unless your able to speak the language then it will be tough going trying to arrange this.

Across the road is a small Mall, not too bad at all and look out for the restaurant downstairs, easily missed but a little gem.

If your a visitor from the west then people will stare at you. Don’t worry it’s just curiosity, just smile and say hello in Thai and most of the time you will get a beaming smile back.

Summary: it’s not the Ritz but neither is the price, good location but maybe just eat out.
