Zen Calm

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 29, 2020
On this trip, I decided to explore Thailand more and travelled inland to Korat (aka Nakhon Ratchasima) in the north-east Isan region (about a four-hour, 209 baht bus ride from Bangkok) for a week. Because it is a long way from the sea and a lot hotter (41 degrees), I was looking for a hotel with a pool. The Romyen is very conveniently located, about 10 minutes walk from the centre, but off the main street so it proves an oasis of calm. The pool, surrounded by trees, has lovely warm water and towels are provided. The hotel cost more than my usual budget but it was worth it for all the quality. The large rooms were very impressive with crisp modern lines and an uncluttered Japanese/Zen-like simplicity (there seemed to be a lot of Japanese influence in Korat, with cafes, restaurants, karaoke and a GINZA area). A quiet efficient air conditioner, a big fridge, free water, a kettle with tbags and coffee sachets, a flat tv with many channels and a balcony all added to the comfort. As the food in two of the three Isan restaurants we tried had disappointed, we ate mainly in food courts (The Mall, with its spectacular waterfall and beautiful fish ponds, and Terminal 21 both offer excellent cheap local food -- this is the same Terminal 21 where there was the recent terrible massacre) and the hotel restaurant which was consistently excellent and reasonably priced. We enjoyed their gyoza dumplings, their wontons stuffed with prawns, their spicy pork and chicken dishes. My only suggestions would be safes in all rooms and a bookcase so that travellers can swap books. All in all, highly recommended.

We spent two nights there last weekend.
Family of 4 using 2 rooms.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
We used the restaurant and the food was nice and tasty.
The services in the spa were excellent and reasonably priced.

Overall excellent visit and will certainly return.

Stayed at the romyen garden place koat after reading the good reviews on the hotel only negative is the room does not have a safe which should be a standard requirement of any hotel.
Fine location in centre of the city close to and walking distance to the old city gate and moat, bus terminal 2 was about 5 mins tuk tuk ride away I paid 80 baht, same distance to temunal 21 korats prime shopping mall, terminal 2 provides a public bus to phimai historical park for 50 baht and drops off almost outside this impressive khmer temple. massages over the road from hotel, good size balcony with table and a chair. Tea/coffee in room, fast wifi throughout the hotel. staff were polite and reception staff were so freindly and helpfully if I wanted a taxi they would use there grab phone app and order it at a far cheaper price then rip off tuk tuks would charge. Nice swimming pool with sunbeds. Gym. Hotel had a massage shop.near pool. Can't comment on breakfast has I was room only but menu was great value and good food with inside or outside tables,
Great value and a super hotel if I came back to korat I wouldn't stay anywhere other then romyen garden place hotel.

This apartment style hotel is situated about half a kilometre from the western mote of the old city and apart from an Amazon Coffee shop in front of the hotel, there is little nearby in the way of restaurants or bars.
Check-in was reasonably quick and we were given a choice of rooms, we took one on the ground floor. The room was large and both the room and the bathroom were clean and fresh. The room did not have a safe although there were tea and coffee facilities and a large fridge with mini bar. There was plenty of parking both undercover and in the open. The bed was hard, as is the Thai style, yet comfortable.
There is a restaurant in the hotel complex serving breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. However, as we had an early start, we did not eat there.
The hotel was good value for money and I would recommend it for those with their own transport.
