“Highlight of our Africa trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 January 2012

Our 3 nights at Ezulwini Billy's Lodge were wonderful. The game drives were breathtaking, seeing lots of big game, up close and personal. The rangers put us in perfect position to take photos, at the same time being respectful to the wildlife. We stayed in thier newest lodging, which was beautifully furnished with everything you could need. The outdoor shower was a real hoot. The food was great and the entire staff very helpful. A nice touch was upon returning from a game drive, was being greeted by a staff person with a tray of drinks, and a refreshing wet washcolth (warm if the weather was cool, or cold if hot). We would highly recommend a visit there.

Room Tip: Newest suites are nicest.

We stayed for five nights at Ezulwini Billy's Lodge and were delighted with the cleanliness and tasteful/stylish/modern details of the new suites. A family of four (two 9 year-olds) had plenty of room in which to sketch, nap, read, nap, splash (in the little dunking pool overlooking the bush)and nap. The room was equipped with a small fridge, filtered water, air con, ceiling fan, and mosquito net (although there were no mosquitoes, which will be a welcome piece of info for those concerned). Daily game drives with Trevor were a treat: he is enthusiastic and willing. One warning: you will be charged for every extra--all drinks, hard or soft, and spotty internet access. Bring your own refreshments from Hoedspruit or Jo'Burg. Oh, and drive there, don't spend the money to fly. The drive is only four hours through beautiful scenery, and having your own car (which will only cost you about $200 for 5 days) means you can go somewhere during the long idle hours in between game drives.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet. The suites are a definite step up as far as space and light are concerned.

I recently spent a week at Billy's lodge, Ezulwini and had a fantastic time. As a photographer and wildlife enthusiast I have spent a lot of time around the Kruger and stayed in many of the flagship lodges that the area has to offer. I can confidently say that Billy's lodge does not disappoint and every detail was perfect!
If you are planning a trip, remember that you are visiting a game reserve and not a zoo. The magic of visiting Africa, is not ticking names off a list that you made. Its about kicking back, relaxing and marveling at the unpredictability and beauty of the African bushveld.
Ezulwini is the perfect place to do this and I highly recommend a visit.

Not only have I had the best (and most memorable) Lion sighting of my life at Ezulwini but I also enjoyed it so much that I had to go back for more! Staying in the fabulous, comfy and well air-conditioned normal rooms the first time I visited Billy's lodge was topped only by the gorgeous and luxurious (new) suites that are now available. The lodge itself is exquisite and is beautifully set in the bush with an animal viewing deck that allows for hours of 'easy' game viewing as nature literally comes to you. If the wildlife and comfort provided by Ezulwini were not enough, the staff themselves take the cake!
The chef (Khensani) is fantastic and is an absolute joy who was always willing to make every meal just that one bite better than the last, which is saying something. Our tracker (Frans) did a super job and displayed brilliantly why he is a tracker to begin with. Our Host (Freeman) was friendly, helpful and was so on the ball that we always had exactly what we wanted, before we even knew that we wanted it!
Everyone from the managers to the cleaning ladies were friendly and welcoming and made this wonderful wildlife experience at Ezulwini (Billy's lodge) one that I will never forget!

Room Tip: The normal rooms are lovely! For a little more privacy, your own on-deck mini pool, an outdoor showe...

We just spent a week at Billy's Lodge, Ezulwini and all I can say is wow! The people are great, efficient, friendly and good at what they do (particularly the chef, every day I'd promise myself not to make a pig of myself and every day I succumbed to temptation!). We stayed in one of the four new suites, Molope, and wallowed in the luxury. Great room, great views, our own private splash pool on the deck... seriously relaxing and romantic. The lodge itself is beautiful, too. We were also so impressed with our tracker who did a sterling job of making our drives interesting and informative. Seeing a tracker use his bush craft to locate the animals is a once-off experience. So thanks to everyone at Billy's for an unforgettable holiday! Next on my wish list is a visit to River Lodge ...

Room Tip: The Suites are truly exceptional, very private and quiet.

Ezulwini's Billy's Lodge and River Lodge are enchanted places, beautifully laid out, incredibly scenic and understatedly elegant, offering the best of the bush experience. We had a fabulous time in every way. The wildlife is miraculous, very protected and respected. Our guides, Lazarus, Richard and Beth, were knowledgeable and accomplished, managing to show us four of the "Big Five" which included the elusive leopard--an amazing experience, along with a myriad of other animals and birdlife. We particularly enjoyed the "sundowners!" Lawrence and Tess were the perfect hosts, as was their staff. They accommodated us in every way possible, from an evening visit to the wine cellar to, amazingly!, moving their TV to the Lodge so we could watch the World Cup Cricket Finals in-between safaris! When India won, a tasty Indian lamb curry was served that evening in honor of my husband's native country. Our visit was the best of the best, every day the perfect day thanks to all those at Ezulwini Lodges! I thank them for our many lifelong memories. I would recommend to anyone seeking a relaxing, personalized holiday.

My wife and I were truly mesmerized with the beauty of this lodge. The ultra luxury suite was the perfect place to rest after returning back from the daily game drives. Well appointed with everything you can ask for and more. Freeman who is the lodge manager was on hand to greet us back from the drives with hot or cold towels and a nice shot of liquor every evening. Rooms were made up every time we got back and clothes that were left on the floor were washed and neatly folded without being asked to. I wished every hotel or even my home was like that. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were very good. I am certain I put on some weight there. The game drives led by ranger Rex and tracker Frans had to be the best safari experience in the world. I saw the big five within one day and saw much more over the five days we stayed at the lodge. In fact many occasions, it was Rex and Frans who found a pride of lions, elephants, or cape buffaloes and they shared the location with other rangers who looking. Truly teamwork at it's best. On our last night, Lawrence Saad invited us to his wine cellar to enjoy a bottle of south African pinotage and what a treat it was. The cellar was built into a rock face that was ancient and even had cave paintings on them. He used local wood from he property to make his wine table and cellar door. The Saad family hospitality is second to none. Every night the sky out a magical show for us. We saw planets, a gazillion stars and shooting stars on our last evening. This is a magical trip that will always be etched in our memories.
