“The best by far!”
Reviewed 7 November 2011

I won a trip to Motswari and can honestly say it was one of the most magical places I have ever been. From the moment we arrived, we were treated superbly and all the staff were always on hand to help. The game drives (the highlight for me) were incredibly informative and definitely lived up to my expectations. We saw the big 5 within 2 drives and I couldn't believe how close we actually got to the animals, I even had to ask our guide to move further back as I had a zoom lens on my camera and all I could see were eyes at one point :-)

Dinner in the boma was superb, you sit with the same people that you go on drives with as well as your guide. This allows you to get to know one another and the guides definitely have some interesting stories to keep you entertained and of course the food was fantastic!

All in all, I can't praise Motswari enough. I really didnt want to leave and can say they honestly believe in their slogan and go out of their way to achieve it. "Arrive as a visitor, leave as a friend."

I will definitely go back to Motswari and would recommend it to everyone. Thanks for making our trip so enjoyable.....see you soon!

We stayed at the Motswari for two nights and we met all the wildlife except the Lions.
The game drives with Patrick as the tracker and Godfrey behind the wheel of his beloved Landrover were just amazing! Exciting "hunts" for Rhinos and a Leopard or just peacefully watching the grazing Elephants and Buffaloes everything was on offer. And if you're lucky you can spot a nocturnal cat on your way home to the lodge. In this two days we learned a lot about the animals and vegetation of area thanks to the big knowledge of the guides.
The food was brilliant and there was plenty of it. Breakfast and lunch with a view over the dry river bed and the grazing antelopes and dinner under the stars of the southern sky; you can't ask for more.
Like the whole lodge the rooms were clean, roomy and very nicely decorated.

Like almost all the other reviews, I have only positive things to say about the place. Petros and Patrick were great guides, knowing the answers to all of our questions. Maybe this is normal, but we were surprised about some of the individual detail they had on particular animals (such as, the eagle's nest used to be here, now it is over there in that tree). We also greatly appreciated that the guides were very dedicated at providing a good experience, and didn't affect some sort of know-it-all or slightly exasperated attitude that is sometimes found in these environments.

I also left my blackberry (forgot I was charging it) and GREATLY appreciated how not only was it not stolen, but it hadn't even been touched and Motswari immediately organized a FedEx pick-up for me (despite being all the way out in the middle of nowhere).

From the moment you arrive to the moment you leave you will have the most amazing experience at this private game reserve. You are greeted with a warm welcome and all of the staff will do their best to make sure you have everything you need. The accomodation is set in an ideallic setting and animals can be seen nearby whilst you relax by the pool or have a drink on the Verandha. Of course one of the main reasons for visiting Motswari is the game drives. You go on 2 a day and nothing can beat the experience of a herd of elephants passing by only a few feet away from you, or seeing lions, leopards, giraffes, buffalo, hippos and even rhino all free to roam in a natural habitat, the knowledge of the guides and spotters on the drives is second to none and they work tirelessly to ensure that their guests wishes are fulfilled.. My praise doesn't stop there this resort is all inclusive and the food is delicious overseen by Leigh and 'Amazing Grace' all tastes are catered for and no request is too much trouble. This was our second visit and we had high expectations after our first visit 3 years ago and we were not disappointed it was just as good this time round and we are busy saving for our next return to this slice of heaven.

Room Tip: All the facilities are the same and of a a high quality.

For the past 8 years we have been staying for 6 nights every year at Sharalumi Private Camp in the Timbavati National Park. The nearest camp is Motswari where you park your vehicle and the Tracker/Ranger takes you to the house at Sharalumi. This area borders Kruger National Park and there are no fences between the two. The accommodation is superb and very well managed.

It is a house with 2 double bedrooms with bathrooms ensuite and a further annex wihich consists of 3 double rooms with ensuite bathrooms. You can hire the camp for 10 people (5 couples) and it is self-catering. However, there is a maid who makes your beds, does the dishes and sets the table for breakfast and supper.

Every night a fire is lit and there is a super big kitchen which is now electrified with a huge double fridge, 6 plate gas stove and electric oven, and a big sink and table to work on which can also be used to sit down to breakfast if outside is chilly. There is a large outside area with couches and comfortable armchairs and a dining area by the fireside for braai's at night.

The infinity sparkling blue pool completes this idyllic space and the view from the top of the koppie here is magnificent over the whole park including the dam down below.

There is no place like it on this earth and the new improved accommodation is really worthwhile. They have kept the charm of being completely cut off from cell phones and television so you really feel that you are part of nature and can get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

There is a driver/tracker and a maid living at Sharalumi to serve you and make your stay as relaxing as possible.

Every morning at daybreak you can go on a game drive with your own luxury Land Rover vehicle which seats 10 people with the Tracker/driver included in your price of R33 000 for 6 nights.

He will do 2 game drives for you every day - one in the morning for about 4 hours and an afternoon/evening one depending on your requirements. We call our driver Johannes, the "leopard man"" because he knows all the animals and where they have their territory and he will show and tell you all about the various animal families living in the area - especially exciting are the 2 white Lion cubs that are currently in the area. They are about a year old - see the Motswari blog for further info.

I can fully recommend this camp to anyone who really loves the bushveld and enjoys viewing animals in a safe and reliable vehicle that is private and no crowds to spoil your viewing. Only 2 vehicles are allowed at any ""sighting"" at one time so it is very orderly and well managed so that everyone gets a turn to view the animals in their own environment where they are used to the Land Rovers and do not mind the intrusion. There is no jostling for position to see elephants, lions or leopards with their young. It beats the commercial parks with everyone fighting for position.

The beds are comfortable with percale linen and the mosquito nets ensure nobody needs to worry about malaria scares. We look forward to our visit every year - the cost is about R550 per person per night. Bring your own groceries and you can enjoy the tranquility and night sounds like nowhere else on earth. The Trackers are also very knowledgeable with birding enthusiasts. Highly recommended.

We enjoyed a 3 night stay at Motswari giving us, what is in our opinion just enough time to see everything we wanted to see and not be rushed to try and cram everything into the schedule.

The Food is amazing with an awesome breakfast every morning and a very good dinner every night. That coupled with the early morning cofee and midday lunch all make for an excellent experience.

The guides and trackers are really great at interacting with the guests throughout the day and certainly do their best to ensure everyone has a great experience during their stay.

Accomodation is luxurious, yet still leaves you with a great feeling of having escaped well away from the city.

An all round excellent experience and we will be back next year.
