This was a great museum depicting Kit Carson’s life and his family home. The ladies who were working there the day we visited were gracious and informative. They welcomed our questions and truly enjoy sharing their knowledge with visitors.

Was in the area and decided to visit. I remember reading about Kit Carson when I was a kid and this was a real treat seeing where he lived at one time. Thought he'd lived here in his younger days & didn't realize that he had purchased this home as a wedding gift for his wife and 7 of their 8 children were born and raised in the home.

Surprised my Dad for Christmas with a trip to Taos specifically to visit Kit Carson’s museum. Travelled from Pennsylvania only to find the museum was closed for renovations. Totally understandable to renovate and such, however, not a thing on their website, their voicemail, nothing alerting tourists to the closure. Arrive at 10am to find a sign on the door saying they were closed. There were 6 other visitors arriving the same time only to find it closed. Very disappointing to say the least especially when the primary purpose of the trip was to visit this museum. Prior to booking the trip, I spoke to an employee when I specifically asked if January was a bad time to visit. She said actually it’s a great time to visit because there’s not a lot of tourists. Call ahead and then double check again!

Taos Plaza and arts district. Interesting and fun. Nice shopping and art displays and studios. Great summer vacation area.
Bring some walking shoes. Go and have have some special made tea at Tea O Graphy on Kit Carson Street. And see the Kit Carson home and museum.
