Stayed here for one night as part of a tour group. Main building and tents were all very nice and luxuriously-kitted out, with each tent having its own private balcony overlooking a waterhole. There's a spa, a well-stocked bar, a pool -- and if you hold your phone up the right way, even wifi! Food was fantastic, with dinner like what one would find in any posh hotel restaurant (better, actually...). For breakfast and afternoon tea, you may need to fight off some squirrels and birds for the food though, but it's part of the fun. Game was a bit sparse around Savuti when we were there in September though, so maybe keep that in mind when deciding on when to go. Many tents also have hosts of stinkbugs which come our in droves in the evenings. The bugs are small and pretty harmless, but they do have a tendency to get your luggage/ clothes, so something to be aware of.

Hi There

Thank you for your review! We're glad you enjoyed being cocooned in safari luxury, and took advantage of the spa facilities. WiFi is quite slow, which isn't a bad thing given that there is so much else to take advantage of. We pride ourselves on our menu and night entertainment with dinner.

Game viewing can be seasonal, but there is always something to see. The small, harmless green bugs tend to arrive with the change season.

Warm Regards
The Ghoha Hills Team

I had a wonderful stay at Ghoha Hills. The room with an incredible view, the manager Nanette and Abram who gave me the feeling to be their very special private guest, the whole team which is very well trained and so warmhearted at the same time. And Celina from the Spa, who really helped my hurting back with a professional massage.
Absolutely recommendable!!!!!

This was a bad safari camp experience and we would strongly suggest not going to this camp. Why?
- there are almost no animals to be seen as the water sources in this area had totally dried up sending the animals to other locations
- the tents need a lot of attention to make them acceptable accommodations. We have stayed in many tented camps at this price range and below and know what to expect. Example: floors are rotting out so very uneven walking and all around dingy look.
- but even more is the presence of mice inside the tent - we had family of 3 who scampered around when we turned on any light at night to go to bathroom. And then there were the hundreds of bugs (looked like olive green ladybugs) that crawled around the interior tent walls, ceiling, mosquito netting, bedspread and floor. A few big spiders hanging on the ceiling too. I know it is a tent camp but we have stayed in many tent camps and never had all these critters inside with us.
- food was OK but not what it should be at this price range camp
- perhaps worst for me was the way the management staff treated the work staff. They were so condescending - quite the "white" attitude toward the "black" staff.
- for the price this should be a much, much better experience

On the good side our guide Samuel worked hard to make the game drives as good as possible given not many animals in this drought land. And Aussie our main restaurant host/waitress was great.

If you are going to the Chobe area get close to the river or right on it - that is where the water is and therefore the animals.

Room Tip: Just don't go to the lodge.

Hi There

Thank you for you review - we have taken your feedback seriously and will address your feedback point by point. We are sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay at our lodge. We are also disappointed about the underlying allegation of racism, something which we've addressed in point 5.

1. Botswana has various seasons, during the dry season they will flock to available water sources - we have a dam and a waterhole. Spotting wildlife is unpredictable and cannot control their presence. We've just seen wild dogs, a lion kill and recent guests have remarked on their successful sightings. While the Chobe River draws in plenty of water dwelling wildlife, sightings there are also not guaranteed. We're sorry you didn't get to tick off the specific wildlife you cam here to see.

2. The lodge was built only 5years and is relatively new. The tents are well looked after and the lodge undergoes an annual maintenance program. The Lodge has been built in a eco friendly manner with natural materials. It's surprising to hear that you thought of the tents as "dingy". Could you clarify exactly where you saw the unkept floors, given that the lodge is new?

3. Unfortunately, due to change of season there is an influx of wild mice and bugs. The presence of wild mice is common throughout Botswana and is not lodge specific. We do not believe in destroying the environment (eco-friendly camp) and thus will not spray pesticides in the rooms to rid them of bugs and spiders.

4. We are sorry you didn't enjoy the food. Could we ask if it was a specific meal, dietary related or you just generally didn't enjoy the food? We are constantly working at improving our menu and our chef is open to constructive feedback.

5. Our team is a tight-knit team, with a management couple overseeing things. Your hint at racism is unfounded. We showed your statement to our staff and they are taken aback, and needless to say upset by what has been insinuated. We do not think of colour, we are a family. Our staff at Ghoha, of all colours and cultures work as a team, and perhaps your statement was prejudicial.

6. We thank you for the compliments regarding Samuel - he is superb and we will forward your feedback to him.

I can't emphasize enough the perfect oasis of calm and relaxation that is Ghoha Hills in the hills of Chobe National Park. The staff and service was above five stars. The food was unlike anything you would expect in Africa. The game drives produced some of the most memorable and one of a kind animal encounters. Abram and Nanette are true gems as managers of Ghoha Hills. They genuinely care for each of their guests and make you feel right at home. The accommodations are five star and the views are breathtaking. You must visit Ghoha Hills on your trip to Botswana!

This lovely place is sure to please everyone, no matter what age!! Arriving we were warmly greeted by management and staff. The accommodations were beyond what I had expected. Breathtaking views from my balcony room on the side of the mountain, where I could see the waterhole where many animals came to indulge in a drink of water! Food was delicious and plated so beautifully! We were even entertained with music and dancing by the staff of people who worked there. I want to go back in the very near future with my family for a longer stay! Thank you Abram and Nanette for a memorable experience at Ghoha Hills Savuti !!

In terms of accommodation, each of our tents have been carefully constructed to take advantage of the views and it's imperative our guests have the space to relax. A balcony overlooking the Savuti region is the perfect place to relax. The advantages of being perched on a hill!

We're glad you enjoyed our modern food with traditional flair. We couldn't let you leave our lodge without a bit of African dancing and campfire fun.

Thanks for visiting!

Our family group of twelve arrived here after three days of mobile camping and a long, dusty trek across the Savuti Plain . When we arrived , we felt that we had landed in paradise. The location at the top of a hill with the plains below is amazing. By day, one could see elephants and other animals gathering at the watering hole below the deck and , by night, the starlit sky was not interrupted with another light as far as the eye could see. The hosts, the staff , the food and accomodations were perfect in every way. We appreciated the eco friendly atmosphere and truly felt one with the environment. Our safari guides were very knowledgeable and worked incredibly hard to share the wonders of the area. Our safari picnic lunch was also delicious. Before we left, the staff serenaded us with beautiful native songs. It was difficult to leave !

Hi There

Thank you so much for your glowing review. Our lodge must have been a relief after all that adventurous travel! A great way to end a safari. Our location is a major drawcard for many guests, the location on the hill giving rise to some spectacular sunset scenes and landscape vistas.

We're glad you enjoyed the local entertainment and gained vast knowledge of our area from our guides. We function as a "family" here, each person as passionate as the next with regards to the role they play.

My 11 year old daughter and I stayed for 3 nights in late June 2017 and couldn't speak more highly of our visit. The warm hospitality from Abram and Nanette and their team was so welcoming, the guide was so helpful and informative and the lodge was just so comfortable with personalised touches. The game drives in Savuti were special with plenty of lion sightings, a nice moment with a leopard relaxing under a tree and lots of other game. We would love to come and visit again.
