We loved Chobe Chilwero. My family (13 of us) just finished a 12 day safari in Southern Africa. Chobe Chilwero was our first stop and it was nearly perfect. First, it is beautiful in an incredible setting. The facility is terrific, the food is very good and the staff is amazing. From the manager to the housekeepers, the staff is gracious, warm, caring and good at their jobs. The guides were terrific and the game was truly amazing. When we arrived, the check in was on the lawn, with snacks and drinks, overlooking the Chobe River. Within minutes we were seeing mongoose, elephants, hippos and beautiful birds. The rooms were very comfortable, way beyond our expectations. Chobe National Park is within a few minutes drive and we saw elephants, hippos, giraffe, lions, buffalo, impala, kudu and the list could go on and on. I will never forget the elephants crossing the river as the sun was setting. Our only complaint about Chobe Chilwero is the length of dinner. The food was very good but the 3 and 4 course dinners went on a bit late for our group. The staff went above and beyond for my family. My neice lost her luggage, somewhere between Cape Town and Victoria Falls, via Jo-burg. They were not going to let her go into the bush without her duffle and somehow they managed to find it and get it delivered before we left - including getting it across the border from Zimbabwe into Botswana. We will gladly return to Chobe Chilwero, anytime!

We were hesitant arriving at Chobe Chilwero after reading a posting in April exclaiming it the "worst property in Chobe" How INCORRECT this was! Chilwero was absolutely clean, luxurious - fabulous rooms - newly painted and updated. Ours was Room 6 and a delight. We have traveled extensively and the place lived up to its star rating. We had a great guide, Ishmahl who was enthusiastic, smart, knowledgeable and I wanted to take him with us to our next lodge! I hated leaving. Our first day driving into the park (which was NOT overrun with other vehicles) we not only saw hundreds of elies, but lion cubs, leopards, giraffes, hippos..unbelievable for our first ever game drive. The evening cruises were outstanding; seeing the elies swimming across the river with their trunks used as snorkels was just a site to behold. The food was good not great, but we were happy with it; especially the hors'dourves put out in the lounge area before dinner. We met great folks and the managers were there at every meal; and also during the day interacting with the guests and arranging activities that were beyond expectations. I do not know why anyone would not want to go there...its a beautiful, lovely managed property with caring staff and great drives. Do yourself a favor and ignore the bad review. If you want to see elephants - go to Chobe. You won't be disappointed.

This is the worst lodge in Southern Africa. There is a total lack of management, which leads to filth, bedbugs, and total bewilderment at our complaints. When complaining to santuary lodges and camps, we were answered by managment that was not on sight who didnot even adress any of the issues and talked in circles. For they know that this lodge is FAR BELOW any standards of inhabitable. When we arrived, we were met by a"Contract General manager" who could not leave the lodge fast enough to even turn in our credit card information(which was left on a coffee table for many hours until I retrived this sensitive information and turned it in to the front office. Too many bad things to list. NO ANIMALS, Filth, disrepair, Bed bugs, No managemnt. Why bother to go to Africa? This was the end of our trip(Which was GREAT in general). We would have left before checking in, but could not get out of Kesane until the next day!!!! Food was Mediocre and was a high point. Do not stay at this lodge and try to avoide this whole section of Botswana.

Located on the outskirts of Chobe National park, Chilwero offers luxurious lodges with a price tag to match. You cannot fault the layout and design of the lodges and the views of the national park are a delight in the morning.

The only slight negatives would be that the food was pretty average and the choice was very limited.

The staff were nice, not overly friendly and sometimes a little off, but otherwise they were ok. Service could be slow at times.

The game drives were great if you like hippos, elephants and crocs, cos that's pretty much what you'll see if you stay for a couple of days. However, if you want to see over a 100 elephants swimming, playing and taking mud baths, then this is the place. Worth staying just for that.

Don't be surprised to see baboons and warthogs as you walk out the lodge door!

The vista that greets you as you enter is the 1st of many pleasant surprises. The bungalows were fantastic. Loved the sunken tub and outdoor shower.

The games drives/boat rides were a thrill. Saw more than I had thought possible. Elephants everywhere including the road to the camp.

The food was very good, the do it yourself pizza a real highlight!

Would I go back, you bet, ASAP!
