Stopped for a very tasty light lunch mid week. Our dog was also greeted and given a biscuit. Friendly staff.
Have enjoyed lunch here before in the garden but well-behaved dogs are also welcome inside.

We had been meaning to try this pub after driving past a few times. Lovely welcome from hospitable staff. Plenty of parking available. We had the bread to start as we couldn’t resist sampling the homemade butter, got several varieties of lovely fresh bread. Both had fish and chips for main which was outstanding - well cooked fish, chunky homemade chips and peas/tartare were also clearly homemade. Delicious. Desserts were really generous and great quality (we opted for a polenta cake which was served warm and was lovely and moist) and Eton mess. Overall couldn’t fault it. Dog friendly too if you fancy bringing your pooch!

The restaurant is clean but a little lacking in design. Candles on the table at eye height, not ideal for making eye contact with your fellow diners. However service was superb. We had 3 different waitresses, all of whom thought ahead (bringing us water for the table when she noticed that the carafe was low), giving us time between courses despite it being busy.
Slightly limited menu but food was excellent - piping hot and visually pleasing. I had pea and mint soup (utterly delicious) followed by an italian tomato and roasted pepper salad with salmon (cooked to perfection).
My husband had bubble and squeak (he's still raving about it 3 hours later) and chili con carne.
The chef had prepared a special sharing platter for desert as I had let them know it was our anniversary. It was a lovely touch on a busy Saturday night.

What happened?? We have been to this pub often and had reasonable to good food and service. This was disgusting. Why take table bookings if you don’t have a chef?? Meal took over one and a half hours to prepare.....really?? Over 300 pubs in the UK are closing every week - this does not auger well.....
Tip to publican: if you know the service is going to be this poor - apologize and give the customers a pudding or a coffee on the house! Not to be recommended.

Having been regular customers for a number of years, I have really noticed the decline in quality of food, and the value for money. Eating here used to be a joy, the food used to be delicious and the atmosphere and service welcoming. I came here for lunch today and what a disappointment. Food was dry and unappetising. Bubble and squeak overpriced for the over cooked offering on my plate and I have had better burgers at a burger van. Really, really sad how much it has declined here. Unfortunately won’t be coming back for food in a hurry!
