After seeing that MSN had this restaurant as in the top ten for state parks, I had to submit my first (and probably last ) restaurant review.
I brought my wife for a special occasion. I had made a visit earlier in the week for reservations and to pick the best table close to the fireplace. Arrived on time and tables close to fireplace were occupied or not cleared yet. We waited. The hostess would take swigs of water out of a bottle as she talked to us.
Finally got to a table near the fireplace. It was a cold night. The fieldstone hearth opening for this firplace is huge, one of the biggest I have ever seen. There was no fire - just a smoldering log in it. A fellow diner, finally got up and threw on two small logs that were nearby.
I ordered the salmon dish, which was in the thirty dollar range. What came out on the plate was a tiny square of salmon- no sides whatsoever. When I asked about bread, they told me they were out and offered a hamburger roll. Later on- they said they found some bread, but I did not take them up on it because it was probably brought back from wedding reception in next room.
My wife's dinner was just a bit better than mine. The whole time we were there, the table next to us was unoccupied but not cleared of prior diner's dishes. No rush to clean up anything around here.
Nobody seemed to care about good service and after we ate I could not wait to get home to make something as I was still very hungry. Knowing I was not to happy about the experience, a free dessert was offered. I declined as dessert will not make up for
this disaster of a night.
