Having arrived at El Mouradi Hotel, Douz during the hours of darkness after enduring no less than five breakdowns in the coach and a sandstorm for which we could hardly see the tarmac of the road, the hotel kindly provided food after the hours of midnight.
Unfortunately, after more than an 18 hour coach ride that day and eventually getting to bed around 1.00am, we had to get up at 3.00am as we had already booked an early morning camel ride to the Sahara desert for sunrise!
I can only describe the hotel as basic, yet clean. The restaurant was nothing to write home about, neither was the outside area or swimming pool which we only glanced at during the midnight hours. The entrance to the hotel looks very grand and typically African.
To our surprise, the original coach we had travelled on which had broken down hundreds of miles away, had been repaired and had driven the rest of the way during the night to collect us that morning.
So, after our early morning breakfast, which again the El Mouradi hotel specially prepared for us at this ridiculous early time of day, before departing for our early morning camel rides, as you will see from the photographs.
In short, I would like to say thank you to the El Mouradi hotel for catering for us out-of-hours, even though we spent slightly less than 3½ hours actually at the hotel which must be a record!
