“Terrific food and views all year 'round!”
Reviewed 16 February 2012

Red Newt was a happy discovery on a blustery afternoon. So many restaurants in this area are closed for the winter season, it was a delight to find Red Newt open, warm and welcoming in February. We love good cooking in the winter, perhaps even more than in the summer season.

The food is locally sourced, even off-season. They feature a fine wine list and some non-alcoholic grape selections, a wonderful inclusive touch for the underage or non-drinkers in the group. Many vegetarian items were offered and our server was gracious about accommodating food preferences. Menu selections were creative, beautifully prepared and delicious; comfort food you never thought of making yourself. The lake view was lovely...we'll be back to dine on the porch in the warmer months.

This would be a great place to go for a romantic meal or a family dinner...there is something here for everyone!

“perfect spot for a wine country lunch”
Reviewed 21 November 2011

My wife and I visited twice during our latest trip to the Finger Lakes - going well out of our way on the last day to enjoy one more meal at the bistro. Having visited in years past, we found the restaurant to be better than ever this time around.
The menu is varied and creative, offering lots of locally sourced food and housemade options. The wine list is a solid representation of the region and the numerous flight options give diners a chance to test some of the best with food.
The pumpkin gnocchi in cream sauce were fabulous - even converting my non-squash eating wife. The sandwhiches and salads were well-made and perfectly dressed.
That all of this can be enjoyed with a view of the vineyards and lake makes it a perfect stop on a day of wine tasting.

“Tepid, tepid, tepid, tepid and overpriced”
Reviewed 21 October 2011

My friend and I stopped for a late lunch on a cool fall day and ate indoors. Ordered two cappuccinos, an appetizer and a hot sandwich to split between the two of us. The cappuccinos were served in a small cup and the temperature was tepid--lukewarm. The 5 small pumpkin ravioli were flavorful, but their temperature was tepid. The soup with the sandwich was so tepid that I had to send it back to be warmed. The sandwich was barely warm and it was split into two ridiculously very uneven sizes--1/3...2/3. The flavors in the soup and sandwich were good, but not particularly special.

The cost was $35+ before tip for 2 drinks, 1 appetizer and 1 sandwich. I am willing to pay extra for top quality food, but the execution needs to be there. We were deeply disappointed and still hungry. We traveled for two weeks and ate at many restaurants and this was the only place we had a complaint about the food.

There was simply no excuse for the poor execution. There were only a few other customers in the restaurant.
