I booked the Villa for 5 weeks during raining season (January-February). Even I knew that there are only very few tourists in Nosy-Be this year since the big hotels are closed for renovation (Neos Air ceased the flight service from Milan) I excepted the offered price, which was 120€/night for 3 people. It was also clear that the 3rd person would join only for 3 weeks.
We had a chef at our disposition in the morning, midday and evening. His cuisine was very good, indeed. For breakfast he was once a week preparing pastries (Thierry)
The house was cleaned daily (Silvana). Also the garden was kept in very good order (Nestor). During night there were 2 night guards around the property (Mounsa and Razul).
It should be mentioned that like always in Madagascar tourists should keep their money either close to themselves or in a safe which can be locked with a key. This location is offering such a safe. The key should be than taken by the guest. Never try to hide it in the room. It certainly will be found.
One thing that was really bugging me big time were the hordes of mosquitos at this location. Unfortunately the ventilator in the big salon was not working and the property owner (his wife was in charge to deal with me) did not dare to have this fixed. Also we had to buy the repellent which you burn. This was especially frustrating since this item costs only 900 Ariary (0,30USD) which lasts for about 3 days and needless to say is anything but healthy. Also the internet was very slow at the beginning. I believe the owner booked the service with the poorest bandwith available. And this was even before the sea cable in Tulear broke. The focus of the property owner was obviously to keep the costs as low as possible. We even had to buy the liquid soap to clean the dish (2 big bottles in 5 weeks; I use one which lasts for several months). Another highlight was the breakfast. After my complaint the service level was changed and the bandwith was acceptable. Even I was alone during the first 2 weeks, of course I had the right to demand full breakfast for up to 3 people. The owner though gave the order to prepare only fruit for me (I do not care for much more during my stay in Africa), therefore no eggs should be bought at the owners expense. Eggs are the most expensive part of the breakfast.
Also, there was no power back-up system. The owner is of the opinion that black outs occur only randomly and than for a few minutes only. Sure enough he has one power generator at his home, which is about 1 kilomter south of the villa. As I was told the power generator was situated at the villa before.
Even I paid a high price for this location, considering that I booked for a lengthy period and considering that I booked not through booking.com. I find the treatment by the owner not acceptable. In fact my stay served to check out whether this location would suit a stay next year together with my wife. It´s really a pity, but I better look for a different offering.
We stayed (4 people) at villa Sakina for a family gathering at the end of 2016
The villa is situated right on the beach, 20 mn for Hellville, the main city on Nosy Be.
It is a beautiful house, decorated in a Balinese style, very comfortable.
It comes with great competent staff - Thierry the cook (that will cook for you anything you want and it's always delicious), and the lovely Sylvana the maid and Nestor the gardener.
Few things to note:
- the beach in front of the house unfortunately is not where you will want to swim, the water is pretty muddy and the beach tends to be a bit dirty but we did not really mind as we were going on excursions most of the days to the surrounding islands
- the house is advertised with several equipments that actually either were not available (e.g. Bicycle, toaster, phone, hair dryer but the latter was provided as we asked for it) or not working (washing machine, so the maid had to wash everything buy hand, dishwasher, some light fitting we're not working and some plugs were sticking out of the wall)
Last but not the least as it can be a bit tricky especially with children - some nails on the wooden terrace /decks were sticking out
We of course did mention all these things to the niece of the owner (as the owner was not in nosy be during our stay, and she was our contact) , as for us it is critical that things advertised work, so that people are not disappointed when they come, but also explained that the house really needs to be maintained, especially when it comes to things that can be a bit dangerous (nails on the deck).
So hopefully they will improve all these.
Then we found it better value (and quality) to book our own drivers etc. Very reasonable fares and comfortable cars (Olivien is mentioned in the previous review, he is very good)
