We (a couple) spent a romantic long weekend here in January 2012. It was absolutely terrific in every respect - clean rooms, furnishings in good repair, friendly staff, delicious food. Really cannot say overstate the degree to which the Mirror Lake Inn bends over backward to accommodate the guest's every wish. We considered the Lake Placid Lodge and Whiteface Lodge (TA rated nos 2 and 3 of Lake Placid hotels), but opted for MLI based on price, location, and reviews (TA rated no 6). Strongly recommend you do the same; we recommend the Mirror Lake Inn unreservedly.

Room Tip: 3d and 4th floors have view; lower floors may say they do, but it's so obstructed it's not r...

Mirror Lake Inn is a lovely multi-purpose Inn on Mirror Lake in Lake Placid. Room was excellent w/great view of the lake. Staff friendly and helpful. Had fun skating on the small circle of ice out front. Meal at the top restaurant was good but not great, although the suggested bottle of wine was top notch.

Others may go to this area for the skiing and outdoors, etc, but the reason I return each year is to enjoy the ambience, dining, and activities offered by the Mirror Lake Inn.

Our first family getaway to the Inn was in 2010 and we returned again in 2011. We booked side-by-side rooms (each with a balcony) facing the lake. The rooms were clean, quiet and spacious - with good intranet access (a must for my 3 teenagers).

The rooms were only steps away from the main building which I would describe as an "elegant lodge" -- dark wood, high ceilings, comfortable seating areas, and a relaxed atmosphere. My favourite room there was the "library". In the early morning, it was a great place to go to curl up on one of the couches in front of the fire with a coffee and read the newspapers. At night, we often borrowed board games from the front desk after dinner and played them at one of the library tables.

During the days, we took advantage of the boats (kayaks, canoes) available for guests to use and paddled around the lake. Our youngest daughter enjoyed the scavenger hunt (surprisingly good prizes) and the swimming pool. The chocolate chip cookies available all day long at the front desk were a hit with everyone. And everyone was happy to spend a couple of hours strolling and browsing along the main street with its shops and ice cream stores.

The sunrise yoga and sunset kayak trip booked through the hotel were good. (Other than a hot rock massage, we haven't spent very much time at the Spa.)

I had expected on both trips to dine more in the village, but the Inn's restaurants were so good that we ate most of our meals there. Breakfast was included with our room package and it was excellent - generous portions and a good selection. We enjoyed being able to eat lunch at the casual "Cottage" restaurant at a table overlooking the lake before heading off into town. And dinner at the Inn itself was a foodie's delight with great service and a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. For the dining alone, I would return!

Looking forward to returning for our annual getaway in Summer 2012!

Thank you for being such loyal guests for your family getaway! I am glad that you enjoyed the views, your guest room, activities and dining! While Lake Placid has a lot to offer, it’s such a compliment and nice to see that you can do many activities right here with the convenience of not having to leave the property! I love this place! Every detail was given attention to, from complimentary chap stick to 24 hour chocolate chip cookies, oversized bath towels and heater in the bathroom, soft sheets and lots of pillows. Every inch of this place was geared for relaxation. Fireplaces and comfy couches and chairs in all the right places, lovely bar, beautiful view. I can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Lake front is best, then lake view with a balcony.

A crackling fire, cozy furniture, chocolate chip cookies, and the aroma of adirondack balsam fir. What could be a better way to unwind? From the moment you walk in, to the time you leave, it is an atmosphere of adirondack casual elegance. The location allows you to park and walk everywhere. The scenic walk around Mirror Lake is a must. Our favorite place to dine is the Cottage across the street; giving you the option of sitting inside by windows surrounding the lake or outside by the fire. The staff is friendly and helpful.

My husband and daughter (14) and I just returned from 4 days,3 nights at Mirror Lake Inn. We have been coming here over 21 years - its still fantastic. The room was wonderful, with a separate room with bunks for my daughter - she loved it! The staff was friendly and helpful in every respect. The ambience of the hotel was so relaxing that my husband and I found ourselves reading in a nook off near the Bistro with tea and coffees in the late afternoon (it was a grey day)by a roaring fire, after a nice swim in the pool - I can't remember being that relaxed in years! The wine list was exquisite (Wine Spectator award in 2011). After skiing the next day, (shuttle right from hotel) we enjoyed the hotel for the evening. Nice short walk to town, views of the lake, great food and you can choose from high end to casual. Yoga in the mornings overlooking the lake if you want. I can't say enough good things about Mirror Lake Inn. Go and enjoy!

My latest trip to the spa at the Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa may not have met my full expectations, but that was not because of the spa! Having been there before, and having had more than one fabulous Swedish massage in past visits, my very pregnant daughter-in-law and I were very excited to have this time of bonding before her baby arrives. We had both attended a workshop in nearby Saranac Lake where I concentrated on yoga and she on cooking healthy meals. The day was cold and snowy so by the time we arrived, we were both ready for some quality time with a professional masseuse. The biggest task was removing all the layers of clothing, but our individual lockers were spacious enough for boots, puffer coats, hats and gloves, as well as our 'change into' clothes. Wearing the spa-provided wraps and flip-flops, we headed for the steam room and the jetted hot-tub, giving our bodies time to warm up and our minds time to prepare for our treats. D-in-Law had a pregnancy massage while I chose a Swedish one. The massage rooms were comfortably warm, had low level lighting, and smelled delicious. Following the massage, we were offered water or tea and spent some time relaxing before heading back to the locker rooms. There I took a shower, washed and dried my hair, thanks to the spa-provided soaps, shampoos, lotions, and even shavers. All dressed, we paid our bill, and left, but did not want the evening to stop....and so walked over the the Mirror Lake's bar-on-the-[frozen]-lake, the Cottage, where we were treated to music, friendly company, and fireworks from the evenings events at the Olympic venues! It was a fabulous mini vacation!

Room Tip: We did not stay at the Inn, as we live nearby, but any room overlooking the lake would be magical, s...
