Description: Located in historic Bearsville along the scenic Sawkill Creek, The Bear Cafe invites its guests to become part of its family. Originally created by music impresario Albert Grossman, The Bear Cafe combines the rustic atmosphere of the Catskill region with the Woodstock/Bearsville music experience. Here, our guest are invited into a casual fine dining experience with a commitment to fresh and local ingredients. Live music plays in the long each night.

Ate here with my wife and 21-month old son. A fairly formal setting. Pluses are friendliness, food, effort and (for us) the live music was great. On the minus side, the restaurant forgot one of our dishes (which we didn't raise as an issue). Overall, we were well taken care of. Value is 'reasonable'.

My husband and I ate here for dinner on our last night in Woodstock. We saw recommendations online for the food and the beautiful setting and view. The restaurant is located right on the Millstream and if you’re lucky, you can eat out on their patio right next to it. I made a reservation for 2 and when we walked in, we lucked out and got a table on the patio right next to the stream. It was so lovely and peaceful listening to the stream over the rocks and hear the crickets and other night creatures coming alive. We even saw some bats swooping over the stream as the sun set. The interior of the restaurant is light and airy and lodge like.

The menu that is posted online is not the one used for dinner. The dinner selection is much nicer and extensive. My husband ordered the steak special and I ordered the homemade pasta and homemade marinara special. I liked my meal and would have given it a 4. The pasta was wonderful and the sauce was good, just not the best I’ve ever had. My husband was over the moon with his meal. He said his steak was cooked perfectly and full of delicious flavor. He couldn’t stop talking about how good his was.

The service was wonderful. Our server was friendly, nice, lovely, and just fun. He checked in repeatedly (but not too much) to make sure we were happy and satisfied. We had such a lovely evening here. I can’t recommend it enough when in the area.

Thank Jvalliant

Located about a mile just outside of Woodstock, this restaurant excelled on every important point! As soon as you entered, you were greeted by a guitarist playing good music. Hostess Karen added a nice personal touch as we chatted before being escorted to our table. Food was excellent, but one item was not as expected. We found out that "chicken of the woods" meant mushrooms, when we did expect to receive chicken with our risotto (special). But within 5 minutes, the staff brought out great tasting chicken. The steaks served to two of our party were perfectly cooked, and the homemade spaghetti was the best we have tasted. We will return for sure on our next trip to Woodstock! Strongly recommend you make reservations on weekends.
