It was the first time for my family and myself to make such a trip, and it was our most exciting experience in the Dordogne. The water level in the river is very low and it's also very quiet so the risk of getting the boat turned over is very small. We made the trip during in August, the cool and clean water were very refreshing and made it ideal for the hot weather. It was also a good exercise for the team spirit of the family. Don't be surprised if you feel like you're in heaven once you stop for a cool drink and a sandwich in one of the snack bars along the river.
But it was so hot on the bus taking us back to the start point. Didn't they hear of air-condition ?
Important things to take into consideration:
1. Make sure you have the exact coordinates (Available on Canoes Loisirs' web site) and program them in your GPS device, otherwise it might be quite difficult to find them.
2. Take some money with you for drinks and refreshment in the snack bars along the way.
3. Be there as early as possible in the morning, which will allow you more time to make stops and visit the ancient towns along the way such as Domme, and also take the longer path.
