We went to this restaurant with high expectations after reading the reviews. The space is lovely, in Vitrac overlooking the Dordogne river. However the food was somewhat disappointing, and relatively expensive (58 euro for a three-course menu). None of the dishes stood out, and the desserts were all too sweet. For the price I would have expected something more memorable.

The dining room is attractive and well presented, as are the dishes, with a variety of plates to match. At 32 and 58 euros for 3 courses (with mise en bouche) the restaurant is on the pricier side of local restaurants, and the cuisine does not warrant this cost, nor do the menus stand out as unusual Orr inventive. There are three restaurants (that I know of) within 5 minutes drive serving finer and more varied cuisine at slightly to significantly lower prices.

The mains all came with an assortment of nice little vegetable bites, but more of a one-size-fits-all rather than paired with the dish. The aigre-doux sauce for the shrimps, which worked well, was echoed with the pintade (32 euro menu), where I would have appreciated a new register. The deconstructed tournedos of duck (58 euro menu) was by all accounts the standout dish, but I did not taste it. The deserts - prunes in red wine and strawberries in sugar syrup were, in the first case, rather cloying and in the second overly sweet (with undissolved solved sugar crystals evident), masking the rather nice green Apple sorbet and vieille prune ice cream with which they were served (all in one glass - had they been served separately the sorbet/ice cream would have had more chance to shine).

This hotel restaurant lives in the shadow of the larger, grander Hotel Plaisance just by the bridge over the Dordogne at Vitrac Port, but its unprepossessing exterior should not put you off. The food is special - indeed the best we had on a week long trip to the region. Exquisite crevettes for starters with a myriad of flavours in the sauce. I had cod for my main course (a welcome change after so much duck on the trip) and once again a very favourful sauce and beautifully cooked vegetables). Worth paying slightly over the odds at €27 per meal (compared with the more touristy prix fixe menus in the €20 region), and great va;lue We will definitely be back

We had such a lovely evening at this restaurant. We were staying nearby and thought we'd try this restaurant - we booked ahead.

There's an outside area but this was fully booked so we were inside. This restaurant is elegant with no pretence. The waitress was happy to help us with the Menu and was very welcoming.

We had five courses of just great food - carefully considered flavours, brilliantly presented and we spent most of the evening just smiling - so impressed. Wine was great too.

This was easily the best meal we had in France - we booked to go again but unfortunately couldn't make it as our plans changed.

We will definitely go back - we loved it. Thank you La Treille!
