When you walk around Fira/Oia and see all those luxurious apartments/balconies facing the volcano caldera with the sunset you wonder if it is possible for normal people to stay there. it isn't because all those places were made to cater for the rich who splurge money to be in that spotlight.
I wanted a place to be nearby Oia and park my car and not go bankrupt.
So I went for This place that is in a village nearby (30 min walking distance).
Parking was away from the place in a confusing car park or on a street that the police took to give tickets all of a sudden. Then you walk through a maze of paths to get to the other side of the hamlet (follow the blue arrows) or call for the donkey to carry your luggage (I am not kidding).
Staff was nice in their brolen english (being from Georgia) but helpful.
The Apartment was clean and welcoming, not luxurious and a bit tacky. I got a sea view from my small balcony which was great.
The small pool was refreshing to cool off and the breakfast was surved in the room and was quite good.
If you can handle the fuss of being off the beaten track maybe this place is ok, for 110€ a day I think it was acceptable.More
