We arrived in Santorini via a transfer from the ferry. Unfortunately the driver dropped us in the wrong spot and directed us the wrong way- although it was not his fault- it turns out GOOGLE MAPS is WRONG!!!!!! do not follow Google maps to get to this hotel- or you will be like us walking around Santorini for 2+ hours with all your bags in 40 degree heat. After asking many people and getting all different sort of directions we called the hotel and found it- on top and next to a restaurant.. not quite what we expected! The room was basic and budget but if that is what you are after it would be great. On our last day we killed some cockroaches in our room which wasn't pleasant and also it was very loud- the music from the nearby night clubs was pumping and an intoxicated man yelling at 0600 from the top deck wasn't the best. But the reception man was lovely and helped us get to our next accommodation on the island which was great.

I wasn't expecting a lot but was pleasantly surprised.

- Terrific location within 5-minute walk of bus station, taxi stand, a decent supermarket, laundry, the caldera's edge, pretty much everything in Thira.
- My room (a single) seemed to have been pretty recently renovated. Very comfortable, with strong A/C.
- Airport pickup and drop-off was a great "extra." The manager even picked me up at midnight!
- For the money, it was a fantastic value.

- Being right in the centre, you'll get a fair amount of bar noise until late into the night. But with the usual precautions (earplugs and/or "white noise" piping in through earbuds, in my case) it can be tuned out.
- The wifi was a little bit unreliable, but generally fine.

The Tataki hotel is fantastically positioned in the very centre of Fira. The rooms were very clean and contained everything needed for a short stay. The hotel receptionist (Igli) could not have been more helpful, a very genuine customer focused individual.

The rooms are basic but comfortable, with all that you need for a pleasant stay. There's a large shower, with hot water round the clock, a hairdryer, kettle, flat scree t.v. For the price we paid it was excellent value considering it's situated in one of the most expensive islands in Greece.

The manager Igli is one of the nicest guys we've ever had the pleasure to meet in all of our travels. Nothing is too much trouble, he will go out of his way to help, from recommending places on maps, to going to the bakery to buy that delicious loaf of home baked brown bread.

He really does care about his guests and was very sympathetic to us when he heard we were kept awake each night with the excessive noise of techno music being blasted out from a night club nearby, this club disturbs all of the hotels and restaurants in central Fira and the the noise continues until 5am, on the one or two nights we managed to sleep it was because of sheer exhaustion. Even with ear plugs we were kept awake.

The location of this hotel is central for all of the restaurants bars and local buses to other villages.

However it was absolutely teaming with people. We could hardly walk down the narrow streets so packed was Fira with visitors from all over the world, there were 1 million visitors on the island the week we stayed. I dread to think what it would be like during the peak season.

We managed to escape the throngs each day by catching the local bus to nearby villages such as Imerviglia which is stunning and has a lovely taverna, the views from there are better than those from the Caldera or Iya which is renowned for views but hampered by too many selfie snapping tourists.

Santorini has some lovely natural places to visit, Fira is not one of them, never have I stayed in such a crowded commercialised capital.

If you are looking for somewhere central and do not mind the heaving throngs then Tataki is the place to stay, but do remember to pack a pair of strong ear plugs.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor have views of the ocean.
