When my children were very young, I would hurry up with my days chores to get everyone ready for a swim at the ponds. During those years, there were life guards chasing away the geese who were cluttering up the area. After the life guard program shut down due to funding, I still went on my own swimming for the need of revival and a wonderful break in the day. Now a days, the weeds and geese have overrun the area. I still walk the paths and find pleasure as long as the dogs are on leashes and horse manure has not been left on the path. I occasionally cross country ski there during the winter months. It is still a lovely place to go to.

Mendon Ponds Park near Rochester, NY is a nice place to visit. It is very large with several roads bisecting it. It has long trails to enjoy the great outdoors. Its many ponds and lakes offer a pastoral setting which is great for taking photos. A good place to unwind, exercise and picnic. I would re-visit it to take in the areas I didn't get to see.

This is a county park and is nice year round. There are lots of trails for hiking and skiing or snowshoes. The trails are marked and many are groomed for winter sports. Hundred Acre Pond is a nice place to wet your paddles. It has a lot of weeds making fishing difficult.
Shelters and pavilions are available to rent.

The park is big enough and varied enough to get lost in. The trails are perfect for walking, running, biking, and other stuff. And the ponds are fair to good for fishing. A real treat is the nature walk, particularly in the winter. The chickadees float down from the evergreens to seeds out of your hands.

I love Mendon Ponds. It is a beautiful park southeast of Rochester. I go there all four seasons. It has multiple trails that are good for hiking, running, xc skiing and walking.
I have trained for several marathons using the trails for long runs. The East Esker trails is dotted with multiple hills that push your fitness. In contrast, the Quaker Pond and South Meadow trails are more level with a few gentle hills. There also are hilly areas on the west side of the park including Cardiac Hill. It gives one excellent choices of terrain. If you have an interest in Earth Science, glaciers in particular, the park has superb examples of a number of glacial features. The park is quiet so you get a nice dose of nature that helps one recover from Nature Deficiency Syndrome.
They do not allow biking on the trails, but I do enjoy biking on the roads through the park.
My favorite activity there is cross country skiing. They typically groom the trails. You can skate or classic ski. I have also snowshoes the trails. Do follow the one ways and keep your dog leashed. The East Esker trails are hilly with turns which require some skill. The Quaker Pond Trails are easier. The North Meadow area on the Eastern most part of Canfield Road also has some easier trails.
I consider this park to be a true gem. When my adult kids come home to visit, they always want to go there to run.
It's a very special place that I love.
