We stayed here in May 2011 for a friends 50th Birthday Party. The staff was extremely caring, the food was very good, and the views to the bay and ocean are fantastic. Lots of fun things to do in the area. A little congested certain times of the year because the summer is jammin!

Although I am a native, life-long long islander, I recently had the opportunity to stay at Danford's Hotel and Marina in Port Jefferson. We normally don't stay over night within close proximity to our home. This was our first and only occurred due to a business function that I had to attend.
My wife and I arrived early and decided to sit near the fire place in the lobby and have a glass of wine. Danford's has created a classy, New England atmosphere in the lobby which was incredibly relaxing. The staff was polite and attentive, but allowed us our privacy at the same time.
We than had a wonderfully prepared meal in their restaurant, The Wave.
The waitstaff was professional and knowledgeable, food delicious (and hot, which for some reason seems to be a rarity these days).
We decided to have a after dinner drink at the bar where we found a very nice, sophisticated crowd.
A gentleman struck up a conversation with us only to later find out that he was the General Manager (I thought it showed Danford's concern for their guests that the G.M. was floating around, mingling with the crowd so late on a Saturday night).
Our room was classically appointed and very clean and comfortable.
We had breakfast overlooking the Long Island Sound on a crystal clear, sunny morning.(Bloody Mary's were fantastic!)
I have always heard great things about Danford's and must say, it exceeded our expectations!
We often travel to the east end and stay at some of the B&B's.
I will absolutely be shortening the ride and staying at Danfords more often!

Room Tip: Water view room was my preference.

We stayed at Danfords on a Sunday night. I can see how some guests might find it a bit noisy, especially earlier in the evening. We had a water view room in the Captains building. There are no elevators in this building. There was one flight up to our room. The room was perfectly clean and lovely. We had a small sitting area with a love seat, chair, coffee table and a desk. Around the wall was the king sized bed, another chair and two dressers. There was a fridge in the dresser under the coffee pot. The bathroom was really nice and the shower stall had a seat in it which was convenient for shaving. I heard the horn from the ferry before I fell asleep, but once sleeping it was not disturbing at all. The bed was extremely comfortable and we got a great night sleep. It was nice to have a door leading on to the balcony overlooking the harbor. Breakfast food at the Wave was very tasty. We walked to a nearby restaurant for dinner Sunday night. It was a nice, romantic evening and there were no issues with our room or the staff.

Room Tip: The waterview is definitely worth is, and is a bit quieter than a room on the village side.

We had a nice room with a view. Room was clean and comfortable. Only negatives were we could hear the people upstairs walking around and the shower was very loud. Enjoy drinks and dinner at the bar. The bar is very nice and the bartender Rob is excellent at his job. Port Jefferson is a great little town and you can easily walk from the hotel to the shops and restaurants.

The hotel is composed of several buildings, some closer to the pier than others, most of them requiring you to bring your luggage up a flight of stairs. We arrived 12/25 around 8PM, and were shown to a nice corner room, but one of the beds was not made. Not clear if the sheets there were clean, and there were no toiletries in the bathroom (shampoo, soap, etc.). In addition, when my husband tried to lower the blinds, the cord broke off. The towel bar also came off in the bathroom. We were very tired, so we asked for the bed to be made, and the front desk initially told us the housekeeper had left for the night. Soon however, he came along with a handyman who could not fix the blinds on short notice. We were moved to another building, smaller room without a view. I asked for an upgrade given the inconvenience, but instead we were given a substantial discount on our rate and four passes for a full breakfast. The hotel is elegant, and if you get a waterview, the location is nice. I liked the wide showerhead in the bathroom too. Ultimately, the hotel response to our inconveniences was adequate, but clearly, did not make me feel this was a 4-5 star hotel experience. There should be no question of where housekeeping is at 8PM nor should the housekeeper forget to make a bed or stock the bathroom. We did get a handsome apology from Greg the handyman, who then helped escort us to the other room, which was not really his job, but he was trying to help us out, and we appreciated that.

Room Tip: ask for waterview

Dropped the kids off at grandma's and stayed Thanksgiving Eve at Danford's. We stayed in a beautiful room with a water view and fireplace. Very comfortable bed, lovely room, beautiful modern renovated bathroom. Quiet and private. The Inn was already decked out in holiday finery-very charming. The staff was friendly, attentive, yet non-intrusive-once they found we were celebrating our anniversary, even more so. We had a good breakfast in the morning, courtesy of the hotel, becasue it was a weekday. Port Jefferson was beautiful, quite a few restaurants to choose from. It was a lovely way to celebrate our anniversary.

Room Tip: Anything with a water view is worth every dime. We stayed in teh VIP suite, a little extra becuase...

My family and I just stayed here last weekend for a wedding, NEVER again. I rented 2 rooms and one room had no heat. They came to fix it twice but could not. They said they would bring in a space heater but did not. It was a very cold long night with no sleep. The bed was hard. They offer no tea just coffee in the room. They offer a bottle of water for 6 bucks, crazy. We went to the bar\ resturant after the wedding and we were treated very bad by one of the wait staff. I will never step foot in this place again.
