Fogarty's B&B is the home of Jack and Emily Fogarty on the shores of Saranac Lake, a 15-minute drive from Lake Placid in the Adirondacks. Their home is historic, with beautiful period touches like a partially enclosed wrap-around porch, wood beams, and family photos and hunting trophies. The location is ideal; Saranac Village is an easy 5-minute walk away and is quieter and more peaceful than Lake Placid, which is still only a short car ride away. Moreover, the house is perched atop a hill above the road, which affords it more privacy and great views, and the Fogartys have their own dock directly across the road by the lake. By far the greatest strength of the B&B is Jack and Emily themselves -- they treat you as if you were members of their own family. They are a wonderful source of recommendations for hiking, biking, canoeing, and other activities in the area, and they go out of their way to make you feel at home.
As a note to travelers, the B&B has a very communal feel, with guests sharing the table at breakfast and running into each other around the house during their stay. Guests should be prepared to socialize with the Fogartys and the other guests; there is less of a sense of privacy in the house than at some other B&Bs. Overall, we would highly recommend Fogarty's B&B!
