Nice seating outside by a river. Delicious sweet and savory crepes. Also had nice sandwiches, soups and pastries.

If you're in the Saranac Lake area, you don't have to suffer from food envy with those dining in Lake Placid. One reason is the Left Bank Cafe.
If you're looking for daring, innovative French cuisine, this is not the place. But if you're looking for some of the classics, those they do very well and at moderate prices. We shared an appetizer of snails (that's how its listed on the menu) where the ample portion of these delectable creatures was presented in between two slices of puff pastry amid a creamy butter sauce. Delicious and just $7.
My entree was a perfectly cooked rendition of Coquilles St. Jacques, with the scallops still moist and tender. We shared a perfectly fine bottle of rose (a nice deal at $26).
We had read some issues regarding service. Though we came in on a Saturday night, our server was hustling but wasn't overwhelmed.
Our only disappointment was we didn't get to sit outside to enjoy the river view. In other words, if you come in the summer make sure you make a reservation so you can go al fresco. It won't get you any closer to Paris, but when you're in the North Country it is close enough.

Wonderful wine plus vegetarian selections and live band. We were there for Bastille Day. Delightful!

We had reserved, and were rewarded with a nice quiet table-for-two in the back corner. Our server was not shy to recommend the coq-au-vin [under a different name on menu] and the scallops. Both dishes were delicious and portions were not-too-big, but enough. We started with theh smoked trout salad, which we said we woudl share, and was split on two plates for us [even though we did not ask]. Very attentive service through out

As recommended by the owner of the Porcupine Inn, we visited the Left Bank Cafe for dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed all courses (including great bread) which were prepared in the classic French style.

Our waitress was attentive and interested and gave us some suggestions for things to do in the area.
