1. The location of units 181, 182 171 & 172 are great in all respects
2. Try to book your dining requests at the 4 restaurants in advance if you can to try and get 2 nights at all 4 - at least 2 at each of Porto Vechhio , Sirius & Teak Elephant. you will lunch and breakfast at Grand Port or Sirius all the time.
3, Book your water activities at the boat house in advance
4. Laundry service expensive- rather take 2 extra short sleave shirts.
5 From RSA take early morning flight on a Sunday (+/_ 09h00) and the 16h55 flight back the next Sunday- you really score another day.
6. take the all inclusive package -it is worth every rupee!
7. The resort is 15mins from the airport which cuts road travelling time by at least 1 & 1.2 hours, but you sacrifice overhead noise- which is not to bad considering the time of day when there are overhead flights coming and leaving

The Shandrani Hotel in Mauritius (South-east-coast) of the Beachcomber Group is an optimal mix for families with smaller children, adolescents and even elderly persons. Each age-group can enjoy their time, in land-sports, water-sport-activities, children-games, quietly reading a book in a peaceful spot, a nice game of golf, a tennis-game, cycling tour through the surroundings/nearby villages, and a good swim in the 'wild' beautiful sea at the natural beach of the Hotel; Shandrani offers it all. We heave been visiting the Shandrani now for 4 years with great satisfaction. There are numerous interesting hikes or sites on the Island to visit in 1-2 hours drive from the hotel. If you like watersports (e.g. waterskiing), this is the place to be. We are surely returning again this X-Mas. The family apartments are an excellent choice for a family with children (max 3 kids). The gardens are lush and have sufficient space to walk around and find a quiet spot to read one's book and enjoy the views on the Indian Ocean and lagoon. The various restaurants offer for each taste a wonderful diner / lunch. Fruits and vegetables are fresh and the variety represents the taste of the island. The staff is most welcoming, from the drivers driving the small carts (shuttles) to the hospitable receptionists. The management deserves a good feedback from clients. We have been so warmly welcomed by the staff that we truly feel at home in this hotel. Our children call it 'Paradise'. What else can a person wish for their holidays?

Room tip: Ask room further away from main building for a quiet stay. Ask a room with private terrace.

Our return visit was every bit as we hoped, the staff are so helpful, rooms refurbished, and restaurants give guests choice. For anyone concerned about being near an airport don't be, there are no more than 60 flights each day and it is quite a novelty to watch the arrival and departure of the two Emirates A380 flights.
The food is good and with a new head chef there are plans to change the Sirius restaurant now the Porto Vecchio is refurbished. The Thai restaurant 'The Elephant Tek' is really great but you have to book and it is a set menu but that changes every two days.
The only thing that really needs to change is the Sirius menu which is rather limited for a two week stay.
There are plenty of free water sports and the gym/land sports staff are very friendly. We learned to play Petang in the shade as most of the time it was too hot to play golf!
I'm pleased to say there is now reasonable wifi in the rooms about 5mbps but it is not available in the public areas - you could argue for and against that service.
We had only one personal problem whilst we were there and the managers could not have been more helpful. They listened to us intently and acted to remedy the situation immediately. Thank you Shandrani Managers and staff, we can't wait to return.

Room tip: Choose a ground floor beach front room between numbers 250 and 300.

We stayed for 7 days in February on our honeymoon and had the most fabulous time. Although the hotel was full, it is so spacious with the option of 3 beaches and 4 restaurants, you never feel over crowded. We loved the beach with the waves, but the lagoon was also beautiful. Rooms are immaculate, grounds are beautiful, food fantastic and all-inclusive option is definitely the way to go. We will definitely return.

Room tip: rooms towards Le Sirius restaurant are lovely and quiet and closest to the beaches
