What a beautiful hotel this is, and the views are to die for. We have wanted to come to this hotel for a long time, but was a little disappointed with the staff.
With it being our silver wedding we decided to do Abu Dhabi & Mauritius.
When you first walk in to this hotel it has definitely got the wow factor. We were greeted by a member of the reception who got us a drink and sat us down to check us in. Think she was having a bad day as most things she said was as if she couldn't really be bothered, not what you want after a long journey. We were taken to our room and she said see needed the voucher from the travel company, which we said we hadn't been given one, and on our paperwork from Hayes & Jarvis said no voucher needed, but we said we had the confirmation, which we said once we had unpacked we would bring down to reception.
The room was lovely and we were very pleased with it.
We took the confirmation to reception she said could she photocopy, no problem we was talking to a guy on reception who was lovely chatty. She came back to us handed the confirmation to us, never said a word and turned away to talk to the other staff.. how rude !
We continued talking to the lovely guy on reception,,,, luckily we didn't see her again. Her name was Loretta.
The Indian and Japanese restaurants are amazing... polite staff excellent food.
The breakfast restaurant was very good also just a shame about the staff again, half of them just ignored us, not a lot of smiley people, dirty carpets even though the hotel had only been refurbished in December not what you expect for a 5 star hotel.
The Republik restaurant was the restaurant we choose for the day of our silver wedding it looked very nice and the food was very good , but again dirty stained carpets with food dropped on them, crumbs in my husbands seat which HE wiped off the girl that was taking us to the table .... don't think she even noticed it, but she did notice us taking photos of the dirty carpet and told her boss !!! We had a lovely meal of tuna tartar and surf and turf.. excellent food.
They then brought us a celebration cake and the band sang happy birthday.
The Sega bar what a great set of staff could fault it in any way, we went in here every night, live music brilliant staff and so friendly congratulations to you on your service. The waiter in the bar young man (can't) remember his nam was excellent he was chatty polite lovely guy. He had worked on the royal Caribbean ships and you could tell, he must of had good training with them and it showed .
Thank you I will remember your name.
The other person who gave excellent service was Shabrum what a lovely lady she booked the restaurants for you and was on the the la bazar restaurant reception, she was fabulous always making a point of coming over and talking to us excellent service.
On check out my husband went to pay our bill served by Kosti she was not very happy either and said we owed for wine in one of the restaurant to which my husband said no we didn't as we had payed cash all the time which is the way we like to do it. She said you do and got the bill out which clearly stated we had paid cash but she still said we owed it. She called for the restaurant manager who came down looked at the bill and said no the customer had clearly paid cash. End of story !!!!!!!
This is a beautiful hotel let down by its staff we think a lot of them need retraining, not what we expected from Shangri-La hotels which we have stayed in before and never have problems. We have stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world this one needs some loving care.
The life guards were lovely and most of the staff.
Would we go here again .... no

I returned to this wonderful hotel in July 2017 for the fifth time, 18 months after an underwhelming visit in November 2015 just after Shangrila took over and they experienced some worrying teething problems on launch.
The hotel is still incredibly beautiful and in great condition, and the service issues of two years ago have been resolved, although the staff do battle to keep up the previous unbelievable service levels they offered at the restaurants when they had higher staffing. Shangrila have maintained a very high standard and made some great additions, like the pods on hibiscus beach that protect from the wind, and the new double loungers on Ilot Mangenie. The food at the buffet is generally excellent and very good quality, although the the variety of vegetables offered as accompaniments at dinner is a little limited, and the food was often luke-warm. The food is however of a very high standard otherwise. Saffran is still one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to anywhere in the world. The truffle pizza on Ilot Mangenie is nothing short of fantastic.
All the staff I have grown to know and love were still there , Sweety, Prem, Oreen, Richie, Rakkesh, Bhoolee, and many more . Some new faces have also managed to match the fantastic service Culture of the longstanding staff, like Shoobham and Sebastian.
It’s quite something to walk onto a beach, sit down on the first day and you are presented with your favorite cocktail without asking for it by the beach butler who saw you from afar and remembers not only you from years ago, but the exact drink you love.
We had a wonderful stay and the hotel, staff, and food is fantastic.
If you have never been to this hotel before, don’t hesitate to visit. It’s a truly wonderful property, with excellent food and beautiful surrounds and decor.
If you have been to the hotel many times before Shangrila took over, be prepared for a different experience, which you would only pick up on if you were a repeat guest. No more repeat guest parties, no more manager cocktails parties to meet repeat guests. While management kindly upgraded us to our usual beach access rooms when I requested this on booking, there is no longer any interaction by the general manger with the guests. Thank goodness for Prem. I definitely got he feeling the new Owners are focused on volume not on appeasing the expectations of demanding repeat guests. Shangrila seems to have applied its business hotel philosophy to a romantic service driven hotel, and seem to have forgotten or made a conscious decision to ignore the small touches that made Le Touessrok so special that we all came back time and time again, year after year .
So if you never been, dont hesitate to go. It will be a five star experience for you.
If you’ve been many times before, be prepared for a more impersonal experience. You will still find the special touches and warmth in abundance when you deal with the wonderful staff who have been there for years.....I only hope it will rub off on the newer recruits and top management before it is lost forever.

Dear Hayden,

Thank you for sharing such detailed insight into your stay at Shangri-La's Le Touessrok Resort & Spa. It is always a pleasure to welcome repeat guests to our legendary piece of paradise.

We are delighted to read that you had yet another beautiful holiday with us, enjoying our delicious food, and of course exploring our exclusive private island.

That being said, we are disappointed to note that you felt the service was impersonal at times. Offering guests a warm welcome and making them feel rested in our luxury home from home is a long standing part of our philosophy, so we are sorry to hear that you unfortunately you felt this was lacking. I would like to extend my personal apologies that we were unable to meet during your stay and hope this will not be the case on your next trip.

We would love to host you once again to experience the personal touches you are so fond of. Meanwhile we will certainly pass on your kind compliments to Sweety, Prem, Oreen, Richie, Rakkesh, Bhoolee, Shoobham and Sebastian.

Best regards,

Just left here after a week and I can honestly say after travelling around the world this wasn't as good as I thought it would be... staff were all very pleasant and polite, location is beautiful but we felt that the food really let the place down.

One morning we had a half cooked omelette (the same omelette was returned a few minutes later!), the seafood platter in Republik was almost cold and a few other dishes that we had were not even warm. Overall for the money charged it simply wasn't of 5 star quality, especially at 5 star prices.

Another thing to note it that in September this is a very windy resort, often making it actually a little cold to sit out in. Sitting here now on the Western side of Mauritius and it's like a different country altogether

Recently stayed for 4 days at this hotel. The check-in process was easy, rooms were spacious, luxurious and the selection of foods was impressive. There is many restaurants to choose from. I'd recommend the Indian & Japanese restaurants. The views from the Japanese restaurant was impressive. The resort has WiFi connectivity everywhere, staff are very friendly and all rooms have amazing views of the ocean. I'd recommend to use the boat to the private island opposite the resort. Approx 15min boat ride. Food & drinks are available here with the last boat departing at 4:30pm.

The environment of this resort is truly stunning . The private island is especially beautiful and the service there is excellent with a reasonably priced restaurant for lunch. Felt exclusive yet relaxed. Lots of good activities are also complementary and mainly based on Iles au Cerf - this island is also beautiful but very touristy and only went there once.
The quality of food is good and I would definitely recommend half board. We ate at all the restaurants without exceeding our allowance. Drinks are expensive but to be expected. Staff are generally pleasant and while there are a few service niggles with a lack of polish sometimes just relax you're on holiday.
Recommend hiring a car and driving around the island - not a huge amount to visit but you will drive through sugar cane and national parks. Just bear in mind distances take longer to drive than you might think.
We had a wonderful holiday at this resort.
