I took a long weekend and traveled to Ruaha National Park with friends - one of the gems of the southern circuit. We were welcomed by the Jongomero family in a beautiful, cozy, and scenic camp. While we did not see many of the animals that Ruaha is famous for due to the start of the rainy season, we saw plenty (!!!) - giraffes, zebras, bat eared fox, impalas, etc., etc., etc. - in a beautiful park dotted with magnificent baobab trees.

Hospitality and service provided by the warm and energetic Jongomero family were superb, as was the food served!!!

Our stay in Jongomero followed a wonderful time in Selous. The Ruaha is very different - especially at this time of the year (February) being much greener and dense. The camp and accommodation was exceptional, the welcome very friendly and the food amazing. You should be aware that you are very far from anywhere else in the reserve so it's very quiet and peaceful. As we visited at the start of the rainy season, we saw fewer animals then you could at other times of the year due in part to the density of the bush. I would imagine to get the most of the reserve, the dry season would be better. Our guide, Leonard was very helpful and we did see lions, elephants, buffalo, dogs and a variety of birds.

Room Tip: All the tents are amazing and very secluded with views of the Jongomero river.

We had a fantastic four nights stay in the Jongomero tented camp in Ruaha National Park over Christmas 2017. We enjoyed the high standard of accommodation, super friendly service by the hotel staff and management, and of course the absolutely delicious food. The tents are very spacious and have a lovely view on the river.

The main focus of our stay was on the game drives with lots of animal and wildlife photography and videography. We started our mornings as early as possible and left the camp around 6:30. At 9:00 tea and a variety of fruits and snacks were offered from our excellent guide Christian in the bush. We came back to the camp towards 11:00 for lunch and some rest. Afternoon game drives started around 16:00 after tea and cake.
The area is famous for the stunning landscape at the riverside.

We have encountered a huge variety of animals on land, in water and in the air. Because of the small rainy season the landscape is green and presents an awesome backdrop for stunning animal photos and videos.

We can highly recommend the Jongomero tented camp for an unforgettable Ruaha experience and would like to thank the Jongomero team for giving us such a great time.

Stunning, exceptional and Luxurious!!! Jongomero is the best of the best in Ruaha National Park. My wife and I spent our last two days of our safari/honeymoon at Jongomero and WOW!!! We were welcomed to the camp with an amazing welcome song and as it was Christmas Day all staff members where wearing Christmas Hats. Truly wish I knew this on arrival as I would have loved to have filmed it. The manager Brian was soooo friendly and made sure we felt safe and all our needs where taken care of. Even provided medicine for my wife and I as we were both struggling with illness. The staff at the camp are above amazing, from Shem who we fell in love with as he was so bubbly and friendly, to the chef David (who's food was exceptional). The rooms where above 5*, the showers where excellent and the room was so spacious and the views amazing. The safari's where excellent, even thou we didn't see as many animals as we hoped the sun downers/snacks and the safari breakfasts made up for it. Our guide Prosper tried everything he could to find as many animals as possible but due to the time of the year and thickness of the bush this made sightings more difficult. My wife and I would like to thank all staff at Jongomero for making our Honeymoon so special and anyone thinking of visiting Ruaha National Park MUST visit Jongomero Camp. You won't regret it. My wife and I are already planning our next stay there.

Dear Calum M,

Thank you for writing us such a lovely review. We're delighted to hear you had a wonderful stay and enjoyed every aspect of it.

Safaris can be tricky sometimes as animals can have a day off and hide in the busy but we're happy the sundowners and the bush breakfast made up for it!

We will definitely pass on your feedback to Brian, Shem, David, Prosper and the rest of the team who will be thrilled to hear they made your honeymoon so special.

We look forward to welcoming you back as soon as possible!

Karibu tena,
