“Very rich and spicy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 January 2012

The food here is Mughlai style i.e very creamy, heavy, highly spicy, decor is good Indian, service was very good, staff are well trained, owners very friendly and hospitable, if you like Mughlai Shahi style this is the place, if you like lighter foods i.e less spice and cream try another place

“Touristy - Pretty Good Food”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 January 2012

Spice Route is an Indian restaurant situated upstairs in the middle of the old part of Stonetown. It caters to large crowds of tourists. Service is pretty good as was the food. However, this place is really nothing special and I would opt for Archipelago which is right across the street from Silk Route. Even a better bet might be Lazuli's which is about a 5 minute walk up Kenyatta Road. If you must have Indian food, this is the place. You will come away not being greatly disappointed but also not being greatly impressed. Prices are pretty high for what you get.

“My favourite Indian restaurant!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 January 2012

Quite simply - this is my favourite Indian restaurant... anywhere!

For me, no visit to Zanzibar is complete without a meal here. The food is fantastic, the cocktail menu is extensive and the staff are very helpful. The service speed is fairly typical of Zanzibar though.

I can't recommend any particular dish as everything I have had here I would have again.

Try to get a table near the window - it’s nice to catch any breeze, particularly when there are power outages like last time I ate here.

“Yummy Food with a picture perfect setting!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 January 2012

It was our first stop in Zanzibar and it was a great place to fill our hungry bellies.
The staff were very friendly and catered to our large group order with ease. I ordered the special that day for 12,000 Shillings and was not disappointed, it was a little bit of everything and it all tasted delicious. Other members of the group ordered things from the menu and no one had a complaint, even when they ate the Tindaloo which was hot hot hot, he loved it!

Cocktails were cheap and very entertaining, so much so that we managed to try almost all of them on the menu...oops.

It is definitely worth a visit when you stay in Stone Town and when I return, it will be my first stop in Zanzibar once again!
