We stayed here, after leaving finding a place in St Emilion to the last minute & struggling to find something - I contacted the hotel directly and they were able to accommodate us in different rooms (top floor, including parking for 140 Euro per night and 89 Euros for a ground floor room+15 Euros parking) over two days which maybe wouldn't have shown up on the standard hotel booking services (expedia etc) - maybe an option if you're stuck like we were. St Emilion is lovely and we very much enjoyed our stay, spending relatively little time in the hotel. The hotel had some strong pros and cons.
Positive side: the rooms are nicely turned out, the gardens & pool in the back are beautiful & great to sit in and enjoy some peace and quiet and the location is very central and perfect to explore St Emilion. There is a lot of parking at the back of the hotel which looks to be pretty limited in St Emilion itself.
On the negative side, the service is a bit cold and "going through the motions" - upon our arrival an Australian woman was telling reception that she had lost her moneybelt and could they let her know if it turned up: the receptionist spoke to her if she was a child and said "well, you must go and look in your room" and rolled her eyes at us when she had gone - not very customer friendly. As other people have pointed out, there are signs everywhere telling you what not to do in the hotel (2 Euros to rent a bath towel when you are paying 140 Euros a night!) that seemed designed for the convenience of the owners and to maximise profit and minimise losses not really about delighting customers, yet in one of the leading wine towns in the world, there is no information or advice in the hotel about wine e.g. where to buy wine cost effectively, what to look out for etc. And please don't pay 10 Euros for a bit of a bread and jam and coffee for breakfast: go to the centre of town and at least get a wonderful view of the church and the village and pay less.
I suppose, this is just good old supply and demand economics: hotels in wonderful places like St Emilion don't need to try very hard to fill up, charge what they like and this leads to complacency and poor service, a pity really for customers.
I would recommend the wine tasting course at Maison de Vin if you get the chance, very informative and interesting.
