Langdon House Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #4 of 8 Beaufort B&B and Inns
Reviewed 20 June 2007

Our two nights with Jim and Liz at The Langford House B&B were perfect! This historic home turned B&B is well-kept, clean, comfortable, and perfectly located. Once you've parked on-site, you'll have no need for a vehicle to visit all that Beaufort has to offer as you'll be situated just one block from the center of the waterfront and within no more than three short blocks in any direction to all of Beaufort's restaurants, cafe's, bars and the Maritime Museum.

The Traditional and Continental breakfasts we had were very tasty and sumptuous. The only suggestion I have for Jim and Liz is to provide some juice and milk as breakfast beverage options.

Jim's recommendations for restaurants were spot-on ("The Grocery" was our favorite) and his help in identifying the "can't miss" sights while we were in the area was invaluable.

These included Fort Macon (one of the best-preserved Forts I've seen), The wonderful (and free!) Maritime Museum, and the not-to-be missed boat trip from the end of Harker's Island, past Shackleford Banks out to Cape Lookout. The beach and lighthouse there should not be missed! And we even saw some of the fabled horses on the way!

We used Calico Jacks Ferry service ($10 per person r/t) which was closest to the Cape Lookout National Seashore Visitor's Center. There are other options - web search for "Cape Lookout National Seashore Ferry".

At Calico Jacks we learned that for an extra $12 per person we could ride on comfortable benchs in the back of a pickup truck from the boat dock all the way out to the point of Cape Lookout and back. This was worth every penny! You told the operator how long you wanted to stay before returning and they picked you up on the hour.

The water was warm, the sandy bottom was perfect for swimming, and the seashore was covered with unbroken seashells, and there was virtually no one around! Watching the competing currents that form the Cape crash together making large waves was incredible! This is a memory we will not soon forget and one we will likely repeat.

All in all, our visit to Beaufort and the surrounding area was great and we will be back and will stay at The Langford House again.

We stayed at Langdon house for four days while on a NC vacation. The owner and wife are wonderful hosts. They helped us locate the best of the area, giving tips on places to visit, boat charters, restaurants, etc. The breakfast was made to order and very unique. They really make you feel at home.

The house is surrounded by a garden and within walking distance of all the downtown shops and restaurants and they have bicycles to borrow if you want to explore the area. No reason to move your car during your stay in Beaufort.

My husband and I enjoy romantic getaways at small bed and breakfasts. We discovered the Langdon House after visiting Beaufort for several years and staying in other area inns. It is heavenly. The rooms are lovely, especially the room on the 2nd floor, furnished with antiques and featuring a beautiful bathroom with whirlpool tub and oversized, multi-jet, glass enclosed shower. Breakfast is an event; Jimm and Lizette determined our likes/dislikes ahead of time via mail and prepared a feast (and I do mean feast) suited to our liking. The Prest's themselves are wonderful people, and we thoroughly enjoyed the conversations we had with them. The Inn is within walking distance of several restaurants, shops and the Beaufort Waterfont with views of the Rachel Carson Estuary Preserve and charter boat and kayak rentals. We loved staying at the Langdon House and definitely plan to go back.
