Stopped by on a lark since it's blueberry season and with a name like "Hop'n Blueberry" it seemed like we couldn't go wrong -- and we didn't! Van met us early and set us up with a little pick-our-own. Afterwards we got a nice tour and description of the farm, the philosophy and how things have changed for both Van and the area. Very interesting and entertaining. Would certainly recommend a visit.

We enjoyed an hour tour on Van's Hop'n Blueberry Farm. It was exciting and educational. Van has blueberries, hops, chickens, wildflower pollination fields, and a monarch butterfly house. We learned about the pros and cons of each crop and how they work together to create an ecosystem. I especially enjoyed the work he is doing to support the migration paths of bees and butterflies. We also got to know Van, learn about his family, and the Black Mountain lifestyle. Must stop!

We had a great tour with Van a few weeks ago. What an awesome guy Van is. He is very knowledgeable of his land (his family has been there for 216 years!) He has done some pretty cool things for NC bees and butterflies. He is also the first hop farmer in the area, we really picked his brain for growing hops in Pennsylvania. There aren't a lot of good guys left that are willing to sit down and teach you like Van does. It was great supporting a humble farmer like Van, I'd recommend checking out his farm!

I helped chaperone a field trip to this farm. The kids and adults alike had a great time. We learned about Monarch Butterflies, and the kids even had some butterflies land on them! Whether you are interested in learning more about hops, blueberries, or the Monarchs, this is a fantastic place to visit. The views are beautiful, and Farmer Van makes it educational and FUN!

We took our four-year-old grandson to this event, and we all had a blast. There were a number of children there, and Van and Martha made all feel welcome! The migration process explanation was really interesting - especially to adults - and the butterfly house was really nice.

On the way home our grandson's only question was, "Where was the BLACK mountain?" We had a good chuckle over that one.
