I come here often with friend and clients and have never been disappointed. When they ask what kind of restaurant it is, and what type of food they serve...and you say its kind of Asian fusion with a Southern meld...you kind of just get the "Oh, OK". But when they get here and try the food, they are blown away! Great vibe in the bar and out door eating area. Great wine, saki, and cocktail selection.....love how they do local sourcing. If you're ever in the area, its a must try....

My husband and I ate at Lantern for our anniversary. He ordered two starters which were more than enough for a meal. The Chaat was one of the best side dishes I have ever eaten. It is extremely flavorful and very healthy. The Korean fried chicken was flavorful and crisp, but the chicken was a little tough. I had the duck soup on a chilly evening. The broth was wonderful and a great complement to the duck and noodles. The ginger and scallion flavors were enhanced by the szechuan peppercorn/salt and chilli oil provided.

The menu is not lengthy but it is unusual, a fusion of Asian flavours, prepared and served with real care. The whole Vietnamese style fish was surprisingly delicious and the wine our server selected was a perfect complement. The panna cotta and persimmon pudding were among the best desserts I've ever had -- the former, a creamy concotion served with a tart sauce and the latter, a heavenly mix of cardamom and fruit.

We visited Chapel Hill to see my wife's college roommate (from more than 50 years ago) and took her out to dinner. The Lantern Restaurant was her first choice for a place, and it was very good, although we were a little concerned about the online menu that showed many of the dishes containing chilli peppers. She queried the wait staff (who were very accommodating) about the level of hotness and the dish she had was mildly spiced and excellent.

This place is amazing. It's a small place so make reservations if you want to get it. It's a favorite Chapel Hill spot for sure. I had the pork chops and they were awesome. Fun drink options at this place too.
