The attached pic says it all. This hotel is run with a lack of attention to detail. This sign was in the men's restroom in the lobby. A $5 frame could have made it neat AND straight.

There were dirty Kleenex behind the nightstand in our room. The splash guards were knocked away from the downspouts. Eggs in the breakfast buffet were rubbery. Worn carpet. Cosmetic blemishes. I could on.

On the positive side, the staff was very friendly and helpful and the hotel is in a good, central location.

Hotels that get 5 stars "sweep the corners." I have no idea why this hotel has so many 5 star reviews. As others have said, I've stayed in much nicer Staybridge Suites. Our group had 4 hotel rooms and all agreed this one needed some work.

HANDS DOWN best hotel! I travel for work for months at a time and stay at numerous hotels and this one is by far the most accommodating! First, The staff is extremely courteous
Second, they have brand new washer and dryers AND they are Free!
Third, they serve free dinner 3 nights a week and tonight is chicken kabobs and the staff is out here at the pool grilling the kabobs on the bbq grills !!!
No other hotel does this .....for free !
The rooms are perfectly set up and stocked with the essentials .
I couldn't be more pleased!

Dear wleigh,

After reading your review to our staff, we're not sure how to compose a response worthy of your phenomenal review! But for inquiring minds, Chef Fernando grills-out, by the pool, for every Wednesday night Manager's Social. There's also a salad bar and plenty of vegetables and gluten-free options as well. Since most of our travelers are like you, on the road for long periods of time, we've discovered that little things, like breakfasts and dinners included, every room being a true "suite," and offering a complimentary laundry, can make a big difference when we're trying to have every guest feel at home. So thank you so much for sharing your experience and letting us know we nailed your great stay! We'd love to welcome you back the next time your travels bring you to the Durham/Chapel Hill area.

Gratefully yours,
Leanne Tripp, Director of Sales

I was visiting relatives in the area with my elderly mother (who does not sleep well) and selected this hotel because they have two bedroom suites, one BR with a king and one with a queen, separate bathrooms and a shared kitchen/LR area. The rooms and kitchen were well outfitted. The beds were comfortable, the pillows a bit puffy.
The complimentary morning breakfast buffet was well done and varied each day, coffee good, hot entrees and cold. The staff was efficient and professional.
The hotel is very conveniently located on the border of Durham and Chapel Hill, across from a shopping center with restaurants and a grocery store. This would be an ideal location for any kind of extended stay.

Room Tip: Recommend getting a room on the side away from the highway.

Dear allwazelearning,

Thank you so much for your thorough review following your recent stay with us. As you mentioned, our Two Bedroom/Two Bath suites are incredibly popular with families who need more space, and we’re pleased to learn that the separate bedrooms helped you provide better care for your Mother, while our centralized location offered you ideal proximity to dining, shopping, and the family you visited. We’ll also be sure to pass along your compliments to our staff, including our Chef and his dining team. We do hope you’ll stay with us again on your next visit with your North Carolina relatives, and thank you again for an outstanding review!

Gratefully yours,

We stayed one night while passing through the area. The hotel is in a congested area with numerous other chain hotels and some shopping areas, all of which adds up to lots of traffic. I reserved online, and on arrival the front desk was unattended. After waiting a while, I searched for an attendant and found him asleep in the office. He did not open his eyes when I called to him but eventually came out. The room charge was $10 higher than my confirmation, without prior explanation. When I asked, he said the charge was to cover incidentals and would be credited after checkout if there were none. That was a new one for me. Our room - studio suite - seemed on the smaller side for the chain but the furnishings were in good shape. The room was hot and stuffy when we arrived and we never could seem to get the heating/cooling to function properly. The bathroom wall had been repaired at some point and the repaired spot was not painted. There was no luggage rack (which really bugs me about hotels). Breakfast was better than most. The choices were good, the staff was friendly, the tables were clean and the items were kept in good supply -- a shout out to the breakfast attendants for a job well done. When we went to leave, there was no one at the front desk again but at least this time the person in the office was awake. All in all, the stay was all right but not as good as it might have been.

Dear JJTOH,

Thank you so much for graciously rating us four stars despite the lackluster experience of your recent stay. What you've described is certainly not the first impression we want for new guests, and we have addressed these issues with our Maintenance, Housekeeping and Front Desk teams to ensure this is not what other guests encounter. We are, however, very grateful that our Kitchen staff and their delicious offerings won your compliments; it is said, "the way to the heart is through the stomach!" Without a doubt, sleeping on the job cannot be tolerated, so I would appreciate your additional feedback if you'll oblige. I can be reached by calling 919-401-9800 or emailing JamesBrooks@StaybridgeDurham.com

Sincerely,
James Brooks, General Manager

Our crew was in Durham for my wife's surgery at Duke University and with a revolving cast of characters we had four or five people staying in a two bedroom suite (with a functional kitchenette) at the Staybridge over a two week period. Frankly I was surprised at how functional the place was, not to mention how comfortable. The staff was amazingly responsive and very friendly. The complimentary breakfast was well enjoyed (especially the Wolfgang Puck coffee) and a pretty reasonable dinner (with wine and beer no less) was also enjoyed. The Staybridge was about 15 minutes drive from the Medical Center but was close to a variety of restaurants and shops. There was only one downside, the highway noise though the night.

Dear Steve P,

Thank you so much for sharing your glowing review following your stay with us! We hope your wife's surgery was a huge sucess and she's on the mend. It really makes a difference to have friends and family by your side during hospitalization, so our comfortable Two Bedroom suites are "just what the doctor ordered" with plenty of space, the feeling of home, plus the amenties of an upscale hotel like our complimentary meals and coffee service 'round the clock. We hope we'll have the privilege of hosting your family again if your wife visits Duke for follow-ups.

Gratefully yours,
Leanne Tripp, Director of Sales
