The cabin we stayed in was just what we needed. The mountview and Wildwood restaurants were both really good. The ghost tour could have been more ghostly but the campfire was very nice. The kids loved the lazyriver pool, mini golf, shuffle board, disc golf, and hiking. The Fontana Dam was great to see along with the boat tour at the marina. Cell phone service was not that great but who cares we were on vacation!

The staff is great and we can't wait to return!

Room Tip: Balcony rooms in the main lodge are best. The 3 bedroom hemlock cabin is very nice.

We found the rooms to be average, no bathroom space, vanity too small to work with. Electrical outlet was 6 feet up the wall, air conditioning not half working, had maintenance look at it and was told, these are old units and I don't know much about them, we think they are on a timer to save energy, so we slept with the balcony door open. Not impressed with the restaurant it seems they have you captive while there with no where else to get a bite to eat, the food was very salty (steak sandwich), the service was poor, our waiter Seth did not check on us to offer refills, the price was way overboard. Our favorite thing was the sunset cruise and our trip to Bryson City, nice quaint town with lots of friendly folks. I used groupon and was charged upon check in for an extra night we did not stay, had to find this out on my bank statement the next day. Asked for an upgrade on check in like I was told we could, was told by front desk we could upgrade for $50 additional each night, the upgrade was at the pool site. So our view was the parking lot. Don't think we will visit here again.

Second time to stay at Fontana Village. Good check in staff and clean hotel. We had two cabins which were clean and nice. The only thing negative I have is the Grill was closed this year, unlike last year. They seemed to have pretty good occupancy and the restaurant in the lodge is more expensive then the grill. Really missed that.

Nice and quite location, sitting on the porch was a highlight.

Room Tip: When stay in a cabin and you have a motorcylce, check on the driveway and parking. Several sloped parking spots.

Thank you for return visit to Fontana Village Resort. Sorry about the Wildwood Grill not being open during your stay this time. Due to staffing needs, we opted to close the Grill during the week after Labor Day. Come back again.

We drove up the Dragon and there were plenty of signs directing us to the hotel beginning in the town at the base of the mountain. It’s always a good sign when your destination invests in signage. The drive up to the resort was beautiful and when entering the complex we found it to be very quaint and in a nice area. Sidebar- Just before entering the resort there is a gas station; get gas anywhere but there as it will cost a fortune for you to fill up.

The resort itself has a lot of amenities. Small store, laundry mat, bar, restaurant, a game room and activities for kids of all ages. There’s a pool, volleyball court, Frisbee golf area an more. The staff is courteous and helpful. The hotel is obviously dated but it was clean. All good stuff.

Now for the unfortunate items. Unless you are very close to the lobby you will not be able to get on the internet. Our room was on the lower level so we were out of luck. The rooms didn’t have a wired connection either so to get on the internet one had to run to the lobby. A nuisance made unbearable because there were two busloads of high schoolers running around the lobby and taking up every seat early morning and again in the evening…when most folks would be online.

The phone in the room was not working. An engineer came to repair it but could not. He replaced the cord and then the whole phone and could not make it work. The issue must have been between the main switch and the room. This should be one of the things checked by housekeeping before the room is rented.

The room itself was clean and a decent size. The washroom however was the size of a small closet. The sink was tiny and without enough room to hold all the usual guest items. The walls were paper thin. There was a family with kids next to us on the first night and we could hear every word spoken and action made. The kids were not obnoxiously loud, the parents weren’t yelling, there is simply not enough sound batting in between the rooms.

We heard good things about the cabins so would try them if back in the area. However, we will never stay in the hotel again.

Item last: While you can drink in the bar or restaurant, the area is dry. So technically you can’t buy alcohol and leave the bar with a drink. For sure you will not be able to buy a six pack on site. If you drink it would be advisable to bring your own beverages and a cooler.

So glad you found and enjoyed our beautiful area. Our remote location does have it's challenges, like limited internet and cell service. There are wi-fi hotspots in the Lodge lobby, at the Wildwood Grill and at the Pit Stop. Verizon cell service is about the only service you will receive out here.

Our other challenge is alcohol sales. We are fortunate to have a resort permit that allows our bar and restaurant to provide alcohol service. Beer and wine are also available for sale in our General Store and at the Pit Stop. These retail purchases may be consumed in your cabin here or at any non-public area at Fontana, or of course at your home or other private location.

We had a big family wedding over the weekend of July 21, 2012 in the Fontana Village. The attention given to our needs and requests by the Fontana Village management and staff was terrific on all points. We arrived on Thursday and checked into a beautiful lodge-themed and comfortable 3BR cabin. Our children loved our “Fontana Cabin” which was spacious, clean and air conditioned! There was ample room for the family members that came and went throughout the weekend. The cabin featured a large island in the well-equipped kitchen with bar stool seating as well as an oak dining table with room for six. Two comfy couches, an ottoman and a rustic chair situated around a flat screen TV rounded out the living room/kitchen/dining room area.
Check-in was easy and fast and the front desk staff was very courteous and friendly.
Tabitha, Will and the entire Events Team were on hand for anything we needed during the set-up in the Recreation Hall, true professionals; they were so helpful and answered all questions that we had. The team did an outstanding job with the food & beverage service on the evening of the reception. The food was delicious and beautifully presented at the reception. The food staff was courteous and efficient.
Fontana Village was the perfect destination for this summer wedding; in fact we have booked a second family wedding for November. I look forward to celebrating once again with family and friends and I know Fontana will go out of their way to make the weekend memorable.
Thank you Fontana Village!

Room Tip: Cabin 656 was wonderful! 3 BR 2 B, very spacious and clean
