Owner description: Grandfather Mountain’s pristine scenery and sweeping vistas rejuvenate mind and spirit. At an elevation of 5,946 feet, Grandfather is recognized as one of the world’s most diverse nature preserves. Be exhilarated by the altitude and panoramic views from the Mile High Swinging Bridge; stand eye-to-eye with bears, cougars and otters in natural habitats. Dine in the restaurant or find a scenic picnic spot, browse the nature museum, wander the trails, go behind the scenes of the animal habitats, visit with knowledgeable naturalists, and stop for a treat at the fudge shop. Fill your day with family memories at place where wonders never cease.

I wasn't able to go but they took lots of photos and enjoyed the bridge and sitting on the rocks along with the views.

Once youve done the typical tourist part, swinging bridge, animal sanctuary, museum, gift shop etc, check out the numerous hiking trails that offer plant life that is unique only to this area.

I'm scared of heights! But crossing the swinging bridge at the top of Grandfather Mountain is something everyone should do at least once. Endless views, rugged terrain and native wild life. Another treasure of the NC High Country.

Grandfather mountain has enough to keep you busy for a day and if you plan it right you can get your money out of it. The "zoo" there is pretty nice...not a large variety but what is there is in a nice setting. The hiking is really nice and from the upper parking lot you can hike the ladder trail (not for those who are afraid of heights) The views are incredible. The "mile high" bridge is kind of fun. It is not like a once and a lifetime experience but worth the time...if the weather is good...that is clear, not to cold and low wind.

Beautiful views, year round. We have visited in all seasons and enjoy each time. Today, it was especially fun to see how much the otters enjoy the snow.
