If you want duvet covers and contemporary decor, there are several national chains to choose from. This hotel is older, the rooms a little dated, but clean and comfortable. A lounge with outside seating on the riverfront. Pet friendly. Very close to great dining in the downtown, easy access. Inside access rooms.

My husband and I stayed at this hotel one anniversary many years ago and was very pleased. But we returned to find that the hotel was not in the same condition that it was when we first stayed. The first room that they had given us had a tile in the ceiling that was wet and moldly. My husband and I both have allergy and sinus problems, so this room was not going to work for us. So they moved us to another room that smelled awful. We were so tired that we did not even want to complain, so we stayed. We have not returned to this establishment since. I believe that it can be a awesome hotel, but they need to do some remodeling quick. It is never good to stay at a hotel that has odors, or that are not up to date.

Not sure how they can call the rooms non smoking when they reeked of cigarette smoke. The hallways weren't any better. The rooms were dated, but serviceable. The pool worked out well for our small children, but it's located on the 'road' side so it's very visible and noisy. The lobby was clean and updated. The breakfast was barely considered average. The staff was friendly.

Room Tip: Beware of the 'non smoking' policy.......the rooms stunk of smoke! I would think the odd number rooms would be quieter as they are not facing the bridge/roadway.

After spending a month in hotels all throughout North Carolina and Virginia, this was one of our favorites! Ralph working the front desk was so helpful and went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable. The rooms were large, the view was great, it was a very nicely maintained facility and breakfast was included. I'd recommend and would definitely come back.

I liked the location, the restaurant next door, and the view from my 3rd floor room was great. Other than that, very average experience - hotel lobby looks clean and modern, but the rest of the building looks and feels old and worn. They also have a very strange policy of making you fill out multiple forms if you want to pay for more than one room with your credit card, and making the customer fill in lots of personal information for them to have "on file". It didn't feel secure at all doing that. The lobby attendant kept apologizing and saying it was "company policy". Continental breakfast leaves a lot to be desired - just stale baked goods individually wrapped in plastic wrap and a waffle station.

Room Tip: Get the top floor for the water view - north side if you can.
