This place smelled like cigarette smoke even in the nonsmoking area. The dirty carpet needs to be ripped up The whole place needs to be aired out. We slept with the windows open.. There is no working kitchen or dining area. There is no room service.
The phones did not work in our suite during our 4 day stay even though we reported the problem. It is surrounded by a construction site. Just because the drawbridge is broken, the hotel does need to be broken down By the way, you can not see the marina from the rooms. I can not recommend this place to any one. It does not look as nice as the website. Incidentally, there is no gym on site.

NButcher, General Manager at Bridgepointe Hotel and Marina, responded to this reviewResponded December 17, 2009

Dear Valued Guest,

In response to your comments regarding your recent stay, our hotel would like to thank you for your input. These comments are used as a building block in providing our guest with the best possible experience during their stay. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the phones in your room not working; we have since had them professionally repaired. Our plans for renovating the hotel in 2010 include new carpet along with aesthetic improvements. We can empathize with your frustrations stemming from the nearby construction and are pleased to say it is expected to be completed in January of next; at which point they will be removing all of their equipment and noise pollution. As depicted on our website the hotel was designed so our guest rooms would overlook either the Trent or Neuse Rivers instead of the marina. Once again, we thank you for taking the time to point out how we can better meet our guest’s expectations and deliver the best service possible.

Regards,

Cheryl High, General Manager

The hotel was full w/ kids and families as it was the weekend to drop off/pick up kids from local camps. Our room had a king w/ sofabed (all rooms w/ 2 doubles were sold out). The drawbridge in front of the hotel (which wd normally connect you to historic New Bern) is still out, making the location much less convenient. Room was clean and decent size w/ nice river view. TV and microwave in the room are old and sofabed was in poor condition and not very comfortable. Towels thin. AAA price was reasonable and it served its purpose. Breakfast was OK - nothing great. Staff helpful. Hilton, Comfort Inn and Springhill Suites (all also in New Bern) are nicer hotels for a little more $$$.

The rooms were large and clean but one could tell that the hotel needs to be updated. We stayed on the 2nd floor and could see the tops of sailboats but the trees blocked most of the view. My daughter could get a wi-fi signal if she put the laptop next to the window. The beds were very firm, my wife liked it but I wasn't crazy about them. Having said all of this, the hotel is in a beautiful location and the price was good. If we ever go back to New Bern, I would probably stay there again, but ask for a higher floor.

My wife and I stayed at BridgePoint Hotel & Marina April 18 - 20, 2008. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean but there was no desk chair at the table. The chair at the table was an arm chair with soft cushions and when sitting in the chair, I sank down too far to use the table comfortably. The free wireless connection in the room worked well. The water pressure in the shower was great. Our room had a pretty view of the river that the hotel is beside. There is no workout facility on site but they do offer free access to a local gym which I did not use. There are not many amenities with this property but it is clean and seems well maintained.

This hotel is a clean, nice hotel with a friendly staff. The breakfast was alright and the eating area clean, but stuffed right into the entry area.

Unfortunately, one of the main reasons I selected it was that they advertised a river view from all rooms. I was traveling with my father so I requested a two bed room and specifically asked about the river views. "All of our rooms have a good river view" I was told. What they forgot to mention was that they only have 2 bed rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors, the river view is barely there from the 1st floor and not that great from the second. You need a 3rd or 4th floor room to get the 'great' river views. Kind of took the flavor out of the stay.

Also, for the next few weeks, watch out when trying to get to this hotel. They have closed down one of the two bridges that approach it and you have to use an alternate route to get there. Call ahead and ask the staff for directions.
