Remember the days when motel rooms had real keys, the owner showed you a room before you checked in and without asking, and then gave good advice about the local hot spots? That's Edwards. Friendly, helpful, clean, retro, reasonablly priced, quiet and walking distance to everything in Ocracoke. In a word.....ideal.

We recently spent a long weekend at Edwards of Ocracoke. It was total bliss! Friendly staff! Clean accommodations! Love the vintage look of the entire place. We had a room with a kitchenette - which was great this time of year, since so many places are closed for the season. We absolutely LOVE Edwards of Ocracoke and will definitely be repeat customers!!!

Room Tip: Love the kitchenette room

We having been coming to Ocracoke for years, having stayed at both the Anchorage Inn and Bluff Shoals motels, rented houses, etc. Edwards is the perfect place to stay for us, as you don't have to rent for the entire week, you can cook here (sometimes hard to find a meal on the island if you are arriving/eating late) and this property just screams "laid back Ocracoke style!" This is a family-run property, and this trip was our third visit with them. It is older, but very well maintained, new windows, updated bathrooms, etc. It has the island charm that you want for this lovely little island, and they make you feel very welcome! We always bring our bikes, and leave them in the racks provided. This is the place you want to just park your car and either bike or walk! Visiting Ocracoke is like stepping back in time, and Edwards has captured that feel entirely! If you are looking for the high-rise condos of Panama City, Destin, or Daytona, don't come here! If you are looking for relaxation, peace and quiet without all of the frills, this is your place! We just left, and I already want to go back!

Room Tip: We love the efficiency rooms with the screened porches and kitchens. Will have to try the cottages...

Quaint. Simple. Quiet. Family owned & operated. You can not go wrong with any room here! Convenient location on the island. We've been 3 times and are going back tomorrow for our 1st anniversary! We won't stay anywhere else!

We enjoyed our one evening in Ocracoke and liked the bungalow room we had at Edwards. The room had a somewhat rustic feel that fit the island's atmosphere nicely. It was also comfortable and clean, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. They rented bicycles to us which we enjoyed riding around the small village, down to the harbor for dinner, and out to the beach the next morning. The only negative thing I would say is that the air conditioner unit in our room was quite loud so just we turned it completely off when we went to bed...then it got a little on the warm side. I would like to visit Ocracoke again and would probably stay at Edwards (with ear plugs next time).

Ocracoke has a certain vibe and Edwards lodgings have hit the mark perfectly. The vibe is park your car and bike everywhere. The vibe is quiet island streets that are not marred by blazing streetlights -- that is you can enjoy the evening strolls and the sounds of nature. Edwards of Ocracoke gets the laid back style of the village. The cottage we enjoyed was clean and freshly painted with a large screened porch. The living area was on stilts so we were above street level; parking and bike/surfboard storage was below our unit. Edwards is usually fully booked and we arrived the night before our cottage was ready. So we stayed one night in a standard condo deal that was very nice -- too nice.. Edwards of Ocracoke however has the perfect relaxing "island beach cottage" aesthetic. It must be simple enought to be relaxing. The lodging creates a mood and recreates a certain time. Edwards -- don't change a thing. Its perfect.

Room Tip: If you want to stay at Edwards, plan ahead. They are booked far in advance of summer holiday period...

Just got back from staying in Edwards. It was my 22nd yearly trip to the island and I had three newbies with me. Usually we stay in a house but since my family was not coming along we opted to stay in a hotel. I was a bit weary since I had never stayed in an Ocracoke hotel and they are all privately owned. We chose Edwards and I could not he happier.

We got a bungalow room which had a small kitchenette, two double beds, and a private screened in porch. The room was awesome. It wasn't like that Ritz but thats not what you come to Ocracoke for. If it is you had better go elsewhere.

THE ROOM: The room was nice and we cooked twice during our stay, burgers one night (we rented a grill from the hotel for 10 dollars a day/20 a week) and baked ziti and shrimp linguine Alfredo the other night. Which saved us a lot of money. (Tip: Buy your items at the Food Lion on Hatteras before arrival). Both times the kitchen was adequately stocked and we had not problems cooking. We sat out on the patio and ate our meals together which was very nice. The room was kept at a very cool temperature. Which I'm sure is tough to do in the heat of August. Every time we walked in the room after biking or swimming it was a nice refreshing blast of cold air. Our only complaint was the tiny shower but something we got over quickly.

STAFF: The staff were very polite and our room was clean with fresh towels every time we came back. They answered any problems we had and even came over one night when we couldnt figure out how to get the tv to turn out (the remote was out of batteries)

LOCATION: This was a great location! Its a 3 minute bike ride to the Ocracoke Coffee Shop (even if you dont drink coffee check it out early morning for a fun time), 5 minute bike ride to the Variety store, and a 8 minute bike ride to the Town Square (Kitty Hawk Kites, other amusing stores). Yet, its not right on the main street, something I love about it. Your children can play outside and you wont have to worry about the traffic (HA!) from the ferry unloading. Ocracoke is an amazing place. Rent some bikes and park your car for the whole trip (except to go to the beach). As far as "over merchandised" OBX goes this aint it. The only really touristy stores are Kitty Hawk Kites, the Pirates Chest, and Teachs Hole. Any other store you enter you will find items made by the locals for sale or fun little unusual gifts for home.

Summary: I would love to return to Edwards! Shoot, I might even prefer it to one of the rental cottages on the island!
