If you're as much of a fan of colonial America as I am, you're sure to appreciate this place.

An interesting side-note: this building no longer functions as the state Capitol, as the legislature now holds session elsewhere. This doesn't mean it's still not the Capitol though.

There are several little nooks and crannies to explore here. Overall, it's a very fascinating place with a lot of the state's history occurring within it's walls.

It certainly isn't as "grand" as some other state capitols I've visited, but that matters not considering what it has to offer to those that visit.

It seems the tours of the Capitol are self-guided, or at least that's how it was presented to us. Personally, I prefer it that way so it's at your own pace.

Visited the historic house and senate chambers, library, geology room and rotunda. The legislature no longer meets here. Stairs to visitors gallery on third floor are steep. Free self guided tour but guides are available for groups.
NC asked General Sherman not to destroy the building or rooms but someone swiped NC's copy of the bill of rights.
I was surprised to learn that North Carolina did not approve the 19th amendment (women right to vote) until 1971.

The North Carolina State Capitol is a great place to visit. However, do not expect to receive a tour guide upon your visit. Unless, we did not receive one. I do think it is good to see what goes on in the Capitol building, and it is a great place to take kids on a history trip. This landmark is one of those places where you have to experience it on multiple occasions.

Whilst not as grand as some State Capitol buildings we have previously visited it's still worth the time to go and see. The grounds show a variety of sculptures including tributes to the 3 Presidents from the state, Vietnam and world war 2 memorials - all very good.

No gold dome here. Just an average style capitol building. Bus tours with kids means no enjoyment. Don't feel bad if you miss this one.
