I have been staying in Yamanto, and my host asked me if I would accompany her to one of her favorite restaurants. I agreed and we made a date to go to Heisenberg Haus. Its a family owned restaurant located in Brisbane street.
We were early and got a park outside the door, which was handy. we went in and noticed the large area. It reminded me of a German Beir Keller however mine host described it that in a previous existence it used to be a furniture warehouse !
Its been cleverly reconstructed and the flaming outdoor gas heaters really lend itself well to the whole edifice.
Our waitress was pleasant, spoke too quickly for me to understand, took our order and then went away. The order was processed and brought to the table, two very cold beers and we sat and chatted. The meal arrived and it was so big I thought I should have brought my climbing boots !
The Pork was described as a Knuckle, ( this has to be ordered 24 hours before dining ) However I would have thought that half a shoulder would describe it better. The pork meat was soft, succulent and very tasty ! The crackling was superb, the whole meal was offset with hot spicy Sauerkraut ( Very tasty ) and the Potato dumpling was also a great addition to the plate. sauce
I realised that I was not going to get through this Kilo of meat and decided when I still had a little room left, that I would keep some room for dessert. I chose the Apfel Strudel, which was served with Gourmet Ice cream, and some custard. My only complaint was that there was not enough custard.
We declined coffee, finished our beers and then departed carrying the remainder of the kilo of meat each. Wrapped in silver foil it now sits in our fridge for for consumption.
Great food, great restaurant and great company.............. It was also a very reasonable price for what we had.
