We had no idea it was there so we drove off the main road and there was this remains of an old gold town

This is a great area for a bush retreat, it lies on a great trail which is great to explore. We spend half of the day driving up and down the spots along the road.

Have you ever wondered why Norseman is in the Dundas Shire? We did. We went to see the Dundas Rocks and discovered the site of the abandoned town Dundas. It apparently lasted just over 20 years in the late 19th century with first gold finds. With discovery of the much richer deposits in Norseman, the focus of Dundas shifted North away from it and the town became history. It is fascinating waking in the bush and seeing the street signs. It is also fascinating reading the historical facts on few plaques scattered around. But it was also very pleasant to climb gentle rock incline to the huge formation of boulders seemingly waiting for someone to just push them down the hill. Immediately to the North is a lovely picnic area with tables, benches and designated fire places. Just a nice place to experience some solitude.

Apparently there is also a Lone Grave in the area – we tried, but did not find it. You may however. It’s also a great place for some photography of the rugged landscape. The Dundas Rocks and the old town site are some 22 km South of Norseman on the way to Esperance.
