The wife and I desided to visit family post Christmas and dug into reviews of area hotels. The Wingate looked good and was better than we expected. Staff was friendly and check in a breeze. Our room was clean as a pin and the king bed very comfortable.

Location is great for Southport and a short jump to Oak Island. I highly recommend this spot and will return when in the area. Great seasonal deal..not sure about the summer but still a a good location.

The chexk in was easy and fast specially checking in late. The hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. The free breakfast was great . They do have a waffle maker. I would recommed this place. The room size was good and not a bad view.

The only bad experience was that there were several light bulbs burnt out in the lamps and the volume on the TV kept going in and out in Room 207.

The king size bed was excellent and it had a marvelous comforter. That’s where it stops. The room was 42F when we arrived. The front desk clerk tried to fix the controls and did so temporarily. It was still 42 when we woke up in the morning. The hair dryer didn’t work. I️ reset two circuit trippers and no juice. I️ didn’t realize the dryer itself has a trip switch. Then it worked. The microwave unit lies on top of the refrigerator under the counter. You have to get on your knees to open the micro wave door and shine a flashlight there to see the timer. Who designed that?
We switched to a second room. It was warm. The bed was excellent. I️ took a shower and got a towel to dry off. I held up the towel and the light, behind the towel showed the grease stains deep in the towel. This is a major booboo! Lucky us.
That being said, the room furniture is much used and it shows it. The heater unit on the wall underneath the window is pulling away from the wall. The carpet on the entire 2nd floor hallway has two wrinkles running the entire length of the hallway.

1st management response: we fixed the heater. We can’t do anything for you. The rug is being replaced.
2nd management response: we could offer you a 10% discount on your next visit.
Fact: I️ used Reward points and got 2 nights. 10% doesn’t mean much. And, we are not looking for a discount.
Fact: most Wingates are excellent. Just want management ( not the front desk manager) to be aware of an apparent ongoing problem.
