Econo Lodge Williamston

After being on the road for a few days, we weren't quite ready to go home. We made a few phone calls for hotel rates, we decided on the Williamston Econo Lodge solely based on rate. We had a King Room with micro and fridge. The second floor end room was nice. The fine details in the bathroom could be a little cleaner, but over all it was fine. We were very happy to find a pillow top mattress to sleep on, very comfortable. The reception staff was wonderful, true southern hospitality. There a several chain restaurants as well as a Super Walmart in the area.

We booked this motel ahead of time during a two-week, historic siteseeing trip. Upon our arrival we were told there were no more non-smoking rooms available with king beds, which was strange since that was what our reservation was for. I had thought that when a person reserves a room, after looking at a motel's listings of choices and options, and then making a choice and payment accordingly, that the specific room opted for and paid for was then actually reserved. I guess I'm stupid. They took some money off since we weren't exactly getting what we paid for, and all in all it's sort of a trivial difference, getting a queen sized bed rather than a king. But in principle, it's just wrong to have people go through the process of selection and choice making and reserving a room and then showing up two weeks later only to be told such a room is no longer in existence or all taken. It's trivial but wrong. Other than that, the room, motel and area were okay. And baseball fans should be aware that Hall of Fame pitcher Gaylord Perry lived in this town and donated old farmland for athletic facilities and baseball fields which is now all called "Gaylord Perry Park." Interesting maybe only to a few but I love Gaylord.

We were looking for somewhere to stay after a long days driving on the way to Florida. We ended up in Williamston by supper time and I was a little dubious about finding a comfortable motel for the night. I was pleasantly surprised by the EconoLodge. We stayed in a very quiet no-smoking room which was roomy, had fridge, microwave, coffee maker. We were concerned about making sure that we had a good wi-fi connection; Vickie at the front desk made sure she gave us a room in the part of the building where the signal was strongest. We were able to log-on without a hitch.
I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone looking for a decent, inexpensive place for the night.

I found this property to be better than many Econolodge's. All interior corridor, 2 story, with an elevator. My room was clean, comfortable and had a coffee maker, ironing board, but no hair dryer. The bed and pillows were comfortable, plenty of hot water with good pressure. Wireless high speed internet worked fine. The hotel is convenient to restaurants, although in this small town there's not a lot of eating places to choose from. There is an oyster bar right behind the hotel, but I didn't give it a try. I'll definitely stay here again when I'm in the area.
