We have stayed at this hotel for several years and love its location, the helpfulness and friendliness of the majority of the staff but we have to admit that it does have some not so good features. Our room, as usual , was very nice with a beautiful sea view. We even had new flat screen tvs put in while we were there. The WiFi fee was an issue this year as my tablet could not connect with the code I was given so we had to ask the manager for a refund, which she sorted out. The breakfast is lovely but I personally found it hard to find anything I liked at lunch and dinner though my husband always managed to find food he liked enough to make a meal. The hotel still needs updating. The pool bar man is always helpful and friendly and makes you welcome. We felt there had been a cut back in cleaning staff as, although our room was checked every day, the work done varied i.e. some days the bed was made, other days not and sometimes we had to ask for toilet rolls as they had not been left that day. On our last day the maid tried several times to come in before our departure time of 12 noon. This was very annoying, but we believe it was due to the fact that she had a lot to do but very little time to do it. The lifeguard did not seem to do much at all, just chat on his phone . Overall we will probably return as the good outweighs the bad, but it would be nice if they could try to take account of their regular British visitors more. One final point, they have a large tree in the pool area which sheds leaves, which the staff have to pick up, and it also blocks the sea view in some rooms - it would be nice if this could be cut back.

Room Tip: Best rooms in our opinion are sea views on higher floors.

If you like very touristic locations, this hotel is just fine. Surprised at all the low review scores this place is getting.

Staff is friendly and helpful, pool is clean, food is plentiful and varied. Rooms are big and clean, though there sometimes was an unenjoyable smell in the bathroom, probably need to check the drainage there.

Of course there's room for improvement: the all inclusive formula isn't that special, paying for WiFi in 2018 is bizarre, the pool could be bigger, some food could taste better, the amount of Germans could be fewer, etc.

Honestly, that's all some constructive criticism and we didn't find any reason to complain like some people here.

The location is the worst thing about Lilia, only because Golden Sands is an uninteresting, sickeningly touristic area with packed beaches and busy boardwalks. If all you want to do is get a tan and live like a pig for a week, you'll do no wrong to book here.

We went bed and breakfast only. Positives, location right on beach, air con, staff helpful proffesional and do well dealing with many languages, breakfast good choice, rooftop pool and views stunning,4 lifts,. Negatives. Extras charging approx £3 per day for deposit boxes, WiFi 1 device only, rooftop pool approx £5 per day. The gym ( approx £3 per visit is a total joke and would be shut on H and S grounds in england. Decor and t.v. is dated.. So summarised I would stay here again if a good deal came up. Yet if a good deal came up at same price I would try elsewhere. I think this hotel falls between 3 and 4 star. 3.5 for me. And you won't hear many English voices in the whole resort it is a good mix. Mainly Germans with many other nationalities. Prices are creeping up on the whole in Bulgaria and standards need to reflect this. So for me it is between average and good. I will mark average to push them to improve.

The hotel does not cater for the English. This was said to us by the hotel manager. We were all inclusive but the only drinks available were vodka, brandy, wine and beer. The food was dreadful, the rooms very outraged and scruffy. The poll area very untidy and crowded. No entertainment not even music played. The staff are very rude. It costs 30 euros for a week's Wi-Fi and you can only have it on 1 device. So it would have cost us 90 euros for the week. We could not wait to get home. Defiantly putting a complaint into Tui.

Room Tip: Do not book any rooms

When we arrived at the airport, me and my Mom were told that the transfer was to the left coach number 5, after an hour of searching we couldn't find it. So we asked another Balkan rep, who said she had never heard or Golden Sands before so couldn't help! We went back in to see the original Balkan rep who said we needed to look for a minibus. After 15 minutes of looking, we found a small, dark and dingey mini bus that had a trailer for our cases which wasn't even secure! The transfer time from Borgas airport was 2 and a half hours, whereas if they flew us to Varna airport it would've only taken 40 mins tops. The driver also stopped for a 20 minute cigarette break so by the time we got to the hotel it was 04.30am!

When we arrived, we were greeted rudely by the receptionist who appeared to be rushing through the guests that had arrived. She didn't tell us anything about where the restaurant was or the times, there was no porter to help with cases either. She told us there was food in the room for us, when we got to the room, it was stale bread and salad which looked as though it was sat there for hours so was inedible.

All meal times was atrocious, there was no English food at all! All food was stew mainly pork, and fish. There was no food for children such as chips pizza nuggets etc and there was minimal choice. This resulted in us eating out 3 nights as we were starving. The snack bar by the pool only provides snacks if you pay for them! And are not part of all inclusive!!!!!

The roof top pool is lovely however again, you have to pay 10 lev per person per day and you cannot take all inclusive drinks up there you have to purchase your own drinks at the roof top bar!!!!

The drinks are limited and are only served 10am-10pm so before and after these times you can't get a drink unless you pay! The drinks are soft drinks, vodka, beer or brandy. Everything else you have to pay for!!!

This is by far the worse hotel I've ever stayed in, as it is also unclean and dirty. It is not worthy of 4* and should be only given 2* at the most!!! The hotel doesn't cater for English guests at all!

I would recommend looking for another hotel if you are going to stay in Golden Sands!
