I took the "Orca waters explorer" tour two years ago, and all I can say is that it was the best experience of my life! We've seen lots of humpbacks, orcas, sea lions and other marine life, the scenary was very beautiful, the tour guides were extremely friendly, helpful and the most important..they are very respectful towards nature and wildlife!

Hi Chris,

It was great kayaking with you and your family. Seeing the girls' reactions to the orcas and humpback whales was fantastic. Hope to see you on the water again soon.

My Husband and I took the 4 day base camp Whales and Grizzly Bear Tour in late August. We had an amazing experience!

The group at Kingfisher took care of us right from the get-go. Booking was easy, great information was provided for us to prepare, everything was well organized. I had questions regarding camera gear that I wanted to bring and they were very quick to help out with suggestions.

We had rented a vehicle from Campbell River where we flew into, and were able to leave it and our suitcases at the Black Bear Resort when we arrived in Port McNeil, which was really convenient. Our guides met us at the pre-trip briefing the night before the tour and helped us get set up with the jackets, sleeping bags, dry bags and answered any questions we had. The next day we were off to Base Camp.

The scenery is absolutely beautiful (bring your camera(s) and extra batteries). We were prepared for any rainy weather we might encounter, but we got lucky and had sunny skies and good weather for our stay. We also got lucky on the wildlife: harbor seals, stellar seals, bald eagles, a nice variety of bird life, we passed by jelly fish and there were even little fish jumping out of the water as we joked about possibility of catching an easy meal. We saw humpback whales everyday, sometimes they were close to camp too. We watched an orca pod swim right by us, and on our last kayaking day we saw humpbacks jumping out of the water from a distance, which was incredible (sounds a bit like fireworks).

Our two guides (Allie and Peter) were fantastic. They took great care of us and were so much fun to be with. The meals were delicious. We had salmon, brie cheese, noodles, fruit and chocolate dip, home baked treats, and more. You were never hungry and every meal tasted great after kayaking. Allie and Peter were a great team and helped us with the kayaking (we hadn't done much before the trip, but it doesn't take long to get the hang of it). They were great about sharing information with us on the animals, and teaching us about the wild and plant life. They were very good at finding great spots to view wildlife and have us park a respectable distance from the animals so as not to disturb them. I felt quite safe and in good hands.

On the day of our grizzly tour we were picked up early by boat and taken to view the grizzlies in Knight Inlet. We had different guides for the bear portion of the trip (Matt and Lindsey). They were fantastic. They had such a wealth of knowledge also and were very enthusiastic about sharing information with us as well. We saw several bears and it was amazing to see them. It was a great way to wrap up our four day tour.

We were taken back to Telegraph Cove where we were picked up by Andrew and Allie and then taken back to Port McNeil where we started from. That night we enjoyed a nice wrap up meal in town with some of the other guests before we parted ways.

It was the kind of adventure I had hoped for and much more. I highly recommend booking with the folks at Kingfisher. I felt it was a great way to experience beautiful British Columbia. We'll be back but with more family members next time so they get to experience it too!

Fantastic experience - wild and quiet area with beautiful flat water for our kayaking (lucky!)
Very capable guides - friendly and informative with nothing too much trouble for them. Felt very welcome and a very relaxing holiday.
Great views of wildlife - heaps of orcas and a very close encounter with a humpback but we never felt uneasy as the guides managed the group well.
