My partner and I stayed at Artists’s Point for 12 days (starting at the very end of September) and spent virtually the entire time on wildlife and scenic tours with the host, Rolf Hicker.
Our downstairs apartment was spacious, well appointed and very comfortable. Right away, Rolf made us feel welcome in our temporary home. The breakfasts are delicious and filling including home made muesli and, on several mornings, freshly baked German bread.
Before we booked our tours and accommodation, Rolf warned us that the weather is unpredictable in autumn and that some of the ocean-based tours may not be possible because of rough seas and high winds. We were lucky. Conditions were generally very good and we able to go out on all but one of the 12 days.
Rolf caters to the different wishes and priorities of his guests. My partner wanted to see wildlife. My interests lean more towards landscape photography. Each of us were delighted with the tours.
Wildlife is unpredictable and it’s impossible to know which animals might show themselves and when and where. But Rolf sure knows ‘his’ wildlife! He doesn’t over-promise but if necessary he goes to extraordinary lengths to find beautiful animals in their natural environment. Over the 12 days we saw humpbacks, orcas and even a minke whale, dolphins and porpoises, seals, sea lions and sea and river otters, black and grizzly bears, bald eagles and a golden eagle. Not a single day passed without encountering several types of these animals.
The fjords, inlets and network of small islands are attractions in themselves. There is plenty of time to enjoy this spectacular scenery during the tours. Rolf’s boat gives unobstructed views either from within the cabin or out on the deck, from a position close to the water line perfect for observing dramatic behaviour like whale breaches.
When time allows during the tours, Rolf is happy to provide advice as an accomplished professional photographer and I learned some useful points about composition and technique from him.
In short, we had a ball at Artist’s Point. Both the tours and accommodation provide a superb experience for those who are keen on seeing majestic wildlife and fine scenery.

We recently stayed 5 nights in the lower appartment. The living room is very spacious and has a very comfortable couch. The Kingbed is huge and we were able to fit the crib for our 1.5 yr old son easily into the room. Bathroom, again lots of space and nice and warm. The rooms are light and the view is always changing.

Rolf, Lena and Lennart couldn't have been more accommodating. Our son loved playing outside (huge playhouse in the garden) and with the toys that were around.
Breakfast were great and a good moment to get some more information about the area and what to do and what not.

We also went on a whale watching tour with Rolf. We could exactly indicate what we wanted and how long. With a 1.5yr old its a bit of a gamble but Rolf made it a very relaxed and worthwhile trip. We saw killer whales and our son got to drive the boat. We couldn't have asked for anything more during these five days. We felt very much at home. I thoroughly recommend staying at the Artist's Point.

Our family of four (two adults and two teens) did the Wildlife and Scenary Photo/Knight Inlet tour with Rolf this July.
The trip far exceeded our greatest hopes, with our cameras snapping at beautiful coastal scenery all day long. We spent time at waterfalls, with grizzly bears and cubs, saw a humpback whale, bald eagles and pods of jumping orcas. At some points during the day, it was hard to know which way to point our cameras, as there was action all around us.
Rolf was an excellent host and guide. Not only did he share his wisdom as a professional photographer, but also his intimate knowledge of the area and its ecology.
We disembarked Ambient Light at dusk with 1500 + photos and memories to last a lifetime.

We went on two whale watching / marine wildlife photo tours with Rolf and saw lots of wildlife. We really enjoyed watching (and listening to) the northern resident orcas, but also saw humpback whales, dall's porpoises, pacific white sided dolphins, steller sealions and black bears. Definitely recommend Rolf's tours!

Rolf's apartment is a large, clean, comfortable space with wild flowers and deer in the yard. Great king size bed, large bathroom with heating in the floor. Rolf offers boat tours to view bear and whale watching. Mini kitchen has coffee maker, toaster and small refrigerator.
