Drove up to Vancouver Island from Seattle and this was definitely the highlight of our trip. We stayed in the Telegraph Cove resort the night before and the tour started at 7 a.m. the next day. Our tour guides were fantastic and really knowledgeable, quick to answer question and you could see the passion for what they are doing.
The boat ride to Knight Inlet takes about two hours with plenty to see on the way. Saw plenty of bald eagles and a couple of whales passed by while we continued our trip.
Temperatures were around 70 degrees that day which apparently is perfect for the bears to come out and be active.
We saw 4 mama bears in total, one individual and three of them with their cubs who were between 1-2 years old. The setting was very intimate with only our boat of 12 people watching the bears who didn't blink at our presence and continued to walk, eat and play along the shore. We definitely took our time and were in no rush watching and taking great shots (highly recommend 70-300mm focal length lens) of the bears. On our way back, we also saw a lot of seals and two black bears who were climbing the rocks right by the water. Allowed us to get super close and take great photos as well. They are super fast climbers! After a quick stop at Lagoon Cove, we came back around 4 p.m. Definitely a once in a lifetime memory and highly recommended!
