The tour started with a very enthusiastic welcome from Wayne, who told us he has been working on boats for 40 years, and completely and utterly loves his job. Wayne and his assistant Alison clearly love whales and we were thrilled to see whales within 8 minutes of going out to the sea. My sister and her boyfriend have been on many whale watching tours all over the world and did the Stubbs for the second time, telling us before this is the best whale watching tour they have ever done. And they were so right. There were so many Killer Whales, Dolphins, Porpoise and Humpback Whales, we did not now which ones to watch first. We were really lucky and two Killer Whales swam below our boat. To top this, Dolphins were playing right next to the boat! What is really cool is, that the boat has an underwater microphone, and the sounds the whales make are played as you watch them. We ended up seeing Seals, Bald Eagles and some Deer too! It was well worth going on the tour and should not be missed out by anyone!

We've been fortunate enough to do quite a few whale watches around the world and, without a doubt, this is the best. Our only regret is that we didn't stay in Telegraph Cove for another night and do another whale watch.

As soon as we left the cove it was wall to wall killer whales spouting, and we saw around 30 killer whales, 2 humpbacks, a dozen bald eagles (including chicks) plus seals etc. Whilst this isn't necessarily a direct result of Stubbs Island being the carrier, they were so passionate about wildlife, and managed to share that passion with the passengers on the trip.

The boat was a good size for the number of passengers, and it didn't feel at all crowded. We will definitely return in the future. No trip to Vancouver Island would be complete without a stay in Telegraph Cove and a Stubbs Island Whale Watch

There really was not a good reason to go on this whale watching trip because the next morning we were going to be going on a multip-day kayak/whale excursion. We were simply too excited to get out on the water.

We are glad we did. Captain Wayne was great. His knowledge of the area and marine life were awesome. We got lucky and got to see a larger pod of whales for an extended period of time. There were two people on our trip that were taking the boat trip the third time in the same day in hopes of seeing the whales.......let this be a friendly reminder that the Orca whales are not on our schedule but theirs. We were lucky. I would say that even if we did not see the Orcas this boat trip would have been great. He took us around Hanson Island and we got to see a few humpback whales too. In addition, we saw various other animals and birds. The entire Johnstone Straight area around Telegraph Cove is simply stunning. A nature lovers continual eye candy indeed!

In 2002 my elderly mom wanted to go whale watching after seeing a news article about the release of a rehabilited orca, Springer. We found Telegraph Cove and Stubbs Island Whale Watching and for the next 7 years, until mom passed away at 100 yrs., we went back to repeat the trip. She sat up in the captain's cabin and enjoyed the banter with Captain Wayne. Orcas, humpbacks, minke, dolphins, porpoise, and once, a huge Fin whale. Very informative and always entertaining. Still going back annually.

Up close views of breaching humpback whales! We also saw a pair of dall porpoises, Eagles, stellar sea lions (one who swam right up to the boat), harbour seals, and other marine birds. Too late in the season for Orcas. They offered snacks and drinks (for purchase, on honour system). The staff was friendly and knowledgable.
