Buy your groceries in Nanaimo before heading to the resort, unless you are planning on a day trip or two back into Nanaimo.

The 2 bedroom unit was big, the second bedroom was actually and lockoff room. It was spacious and we were lucky to have a unit facing the water.

The indoor swimming pool temperature was fine and allowed the kids to play. The sauna was on the small side, and the hot tub was small too. The outdoor swimming pool was nice, but would be cold in the winter months. We went out on the water in a couple of kayaks, which did not have any additional costs.

The tourist attractions in Parksville are not open during the winter months. There are some shops to walk through.

We did not try the spa or other amenitities. We did have a relaxing stay and enjoyed the calmness, and went for walks along the shore during low tide.

Pacific Shores is located on small bay (Craigs Bay) which fills & empties twice a day with the tides. The opposite side of the bay is occupied by Rathtreavor park - a favorite camping location of Vancouver Island residents - is one of many excellent parks in the area. Accomodations are spacious and on-site amenities include pool, training room, spa & restaurant. The restaurant is pricey for average cuisine and there aren't many alternatives in the surrounding area. Nature hikes, kayaking & golf are major outdoor activities in the area. The giant cedars are worth a day trip.

Room Tip: Rooms in the 500-600 block are on the water but the smell of geese has been tracked into the carpets.

Obtained this through RCI and when I found out we were staying in the "dreaded 700-block", as many other reviewers called it, I was skeptical. Even an owner in speaking with him while in the jacuzzi said "oh you are in the barracks". I felt lucky though considering this was July, prime season. We had four adults in a one bedroom unit, sofa second bed. Yes, it was not the largest unit we have ever stayed at, somewhat small for four adults ( a couple with two children would have been perfect) but it suited our needs just fine. The unit appeared to be newly remodeled and had more than everything we needed so we could save money for adventures by cooking (gas grill and stove) versus eating out multiple times a day. The grounds there are beautiful, restaurant terrific, took advantage often of their free kayaks by a beautiful bay and staff from housekeeping to front desk outstanding. If you were going to Beautiful British Columbia to just stay in a room all week, this may not be the place for you, but why would anyone do that when there is so much to see and do? Instead we went to Ucluelet for a great whale watching tour, visited Victoria one day, went cave and waterfall exploring and took a small ferry from Nanaimo to another island. The location of the resort was perfect for all of these activities and we had many grocery stores and other restaurants nearby in Parksville and even a Costco near Naniamo. Alcohol terribly expense, appears regulated by government taxes, wait until you get to Duty Free store on leaving, it's literally half the price. For us, BC was a terrific vacation and Pacific Shores was fine.

Room Tip: Room newly remodeled, loaded with everything you need, somewhat small for four large adults, 3 of which are at the 200 pound mark.

We loved our stay at Pacific Shores Resort and Spa and will stay there again next time we visit. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. We didn't have any problems at all. The grounds were nicely maintained. We ate in the restaurant one evening, food was great. We kayaked one afternoon and it was awesome. Built a fire on the beach and roasted marshmallows!! Parking was fine, no problems there. The only thing someone would need to be aware of is the office hours for checking in and out. We had to wait until 7:00 am to check out and the office closes at 10:00 p.m, otherwise the process was flawless!

We stayed in a 1 bedroom in the 200 block, it was a great location. Having the full kitchen was awesome. We also had a washer and dryer! It wasn't a far walk to get anywhere on the property and we had a gorgeous view of the bay, although we were not right on the bay, it was still gorgeous.

We did not use the spas or the pool, so I can't comment on those. The general store had good choices of things you might need and may not want to drive into town for.

We stayed here for our son's wedding and found it to be a pretty close to perfect venue. Although the bride and groom had some issues with the person who hepled them plan for the venue, I think they were all resolved. From the parents perspective, the resort is in a stpupendous location, close to amenities such as grocery stores, etc., although one does need a vehicle. The accommodations are clean, well supplied, quiet and nice views. The staff, to a person, from the front desk to the person driving the little truck with the garbage, were pleasant and easy to deal with. The restaurant has the most amazing fish tanks and the food is good. I would stay again and I would have no difficulty recommending it.
