If you don't visit this museum you're missing out. What a place, possibly the most well displayed museum I have ever been to.
Great work by all the volunteers who make this place the jewel of Shawnigan
Great, family friendly museum in the heart of Shawnigan Village.
Loads of information on local history and the famous Kinsol Trestle.
Went to this museum 10mins before closing time but the operators were happy to have us take our time before they closed which was very nice of them. Lots of lovely old photos of shawnigan lake and interesting information from the friendly guides.
There are so many "memory" items in this museum. My neighbour at Shawnigan Lake started to make a doll house when she was in her 70's. It was all make to 1/4 scale and all done using her full size machines. It has so many items in the doll house that not all are displayed. Ask to see the others. This alone is a reason to visit this museum.
My friend and I were getting sushi at Shawnigan Jen's and we decided instead of waiting in the car, we would take a look at the museum across the street...it had been years since the both of us had been there, do NOT let the exterior fool you, it is HUGE inside and even has a movie theatre with cool old movies for you to watch with history about Shawnigan etc...
Informative museum host/employee, told us alot of things we did not know, and the museum is by donation, by the way, which is nice.
We spent only 20 minutes in there and got 1/4 of the way through the exhibits...we are going back for sure...it closes at 4, but if you have kids, this is an interesting place to check out!
:)
Thank you for the kind words. We hope to see you again soon!
I stay at Shawnigan Lake ever year, and every year I take a visit to the Shawnigan Lake Museum, which just keeps getting better. The relatively small building is packed with information and displays and interesting historical artifacts. I particularly liked the old general store, with all of its vintage paraphernalia.
Thank you for taking the time to review the museum. See you next year.
